MIAS 2015: Mazda's Display is a Strong Show of Force
Mazda Philippines is pulling out all the stops to bring back the fun in driving and they’re using the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) as their venue. The Japanese brand, best known for ‘zoom-zoom’, ‘KODO’, and of course, ‘Skyactiv’ will have the biggest footprint among exhibitors at the World Trade Center, measuring at 1,000 square-meters. And it won’t just be the case of making things roomy for show goers. Mazda says they will bring in 13 all-new or improved models at the show. Yes, you read that right. Thirteen all-new or improved models for 2015.

Mazda6, Ford Ranger Wildtrak Bag Philippine Car of the Year, Truck of the Year Respectively
Testing for Car of the Year - Philippines and Truck of the Year - Philippines is done and dusted, and who came out with top honors? It comes as no big surprise as the Mazda’s executive sedan offering, the 6 walked away with the highly-coveted Car of the Year – Philippines (CoTY – P) while the Ford redeemed itself with Truck of the Year – Philippines (ToTY – P) as its Ranger Wildtrak scooped the other top prize of the night.

First Drive: 2013 Mazda CX-5 AWD Sport and Mazda6
They say it’s all about the journey rather than the destination; especially when you’re heading to a more familiar place like Baguio. A trip to the Philippines’s Summer Capital is dime-a-dozen these days and often times, it can be taken on a whim with family and friends. Thus, the only differentiating factor is the drive, and by golly, you need a damn good car to stand out. And on this occasion, prayers to the automotive gods were answered in the form of the new Mazda CX-5 AWD Sport and the Mazda6 sports sedan.

2014 Mazda6 Breaks Out at Moscow International Automobile Salon
Photo Courtesy of Mazda Press |
From a glance, it's clear that the all-new Mazda6 isn't your regular mid-size sedan. It's the first passenger car to take on the design cues of the Mazda TAKERI concept car. Upfront, it incorporates the "signature wing" facia along with a strong hood crease and flowing body lines that expresses motion even when standing perfectly still. The Mazda6 is also the first car from the car company to have LED and "halo ring light guides".

UPDATED: Mazda Previews All-New 6
Photo courtesy of Mazda Press |
Though details are still somewhat sketchy, it's been revealed that the all-new 6 will wear the "Kodo - Soul of Motion" design language pioneered by the CX-5. The 6 (at least in European spec) will feature a brake regeneration technology called "i-ELOOP". The 6 will also feature the a SkyActiv-G engine with 2.0-liters of displacement mated to a 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic. Whether the 6 will see a power bump from the CX-5's mill remains to be seen.
While you're waiting for the all-new 6 to show itself, a preview video is available after the break straight from the folks at Mazda:

Review: 2012 Mazda6, CX-7 and CX-9
Photos by Ulysses Ang |
Normally, when one thinks of the Mazda
brand, the image of a young driver, perhaps bordering on “boy-racer” comes to
mind. Mind you, with products like the Mazda 2, 3 and the MX-5, that’s not such
a bad thing. However, bringing back the love in everyday driving goes way
beyond the “go-fast, live-fast” mantra that’s been instilled, somewhat
unofficially, to the Mazda brand. In fact, beyond the compacts and sports cars,
Mazda is home to three bright driving gems, all of which show an equal dose of
sophistication and speed; comfort and handling fun; practicality and attitude:
the Mazda6, CX-7, and CX-9.
Driving and comparing Mazda’s executive
sedan, five-seater and seven-seater crossovers may seem somewhat odd given the
different market segments they’re supposed to cater to. However, after driving
these cars back-to-back-to-back, one thing’s clear: they’re all machined from
the same magical piece of Mazda magic. The sheet metal alone serves as an
indication to the sort of experience waiting to be discovered. Whether it’s the
6, CX-7 or CX-9, they’re equally aggressive and expressive without being
comical or over-the-top. The flowing lines and taut features continue to remain
fresh in the respective segments they’re in; while the squinting headlamps and
large, smiling grille clearly ties them together as one family.

Review: 2005 Mazda6 2.3
The engine closes up to 7,000 rpm and the muted sonorous note fills the cabin. Just before the rev limiter hit, you signal the sequential shifter up a notch. It responds quickly, almost transparently, pushing the speed even further. A corner approaches, and without a second thought, you twist the fat three-spoke steering wheel into the direction of the curve. The car obeys, telepathically taking the line you want. Your pulse quickens, your breath deepens, and you feel alive once more behind the wheel of the Mazda6.
