Round 5 of 2012 Lateral Drift Championship Series

The recently held round 5 of the Lateral Drift Championship night race was considered a success, together with the Zero to 400 Drag race event produced by Emperor Motorsports wherein a total recorded gate spectators was about 2,000 plus who entered the Clark International Speedway and witnessed this one of a kind and most awaited night drift event by motor enthusiasts.

It was an action packed race day at the CIS as the action started as early as 7:00 am and with the time attack by Circuit Showdown which ended around 2:00 pm. After which, it was now time for the Drag and Drift that would end up until the wee hours of the night. This is the 2nd time Later Drift Productions produced a night drift this year and last year.

Action started with the amateur drivers, and it was championship leader, Jet Mathay who showed top form, as he battled with Jesus Salas who ends up in 2nd place in his newly built Nissan Cefiro A31. Third place was taken by a local from Pampanga Rad “Rich” Albano of Team Autocraft .

The big boys went next as PROs showed and thrilled the spectators in high speed entry reaching the highest at 100 kph achieved by Pao Agregado of Team Hankook tires, but failed to make it to the final 4 with a big mistake and wherein Ryan Agoncillo of Team Yellow Cab advances. Championship leader Audel Sison “AKA Doctor Drift” was upset in front of his home town crowd by Ralph Tan of Team Hankook tires and Sison ends up short in top 8.

Battle for third with Agoncillio and Tan was so close as judges’ called a few more knock out runs and sadly an error made by Agoncillio as he goes off track with 3 wheels. Tan take 3rd place of round 5. The battle for first between 5th time Lateral Drift Champion Alex Perez and Gio Rodriguez was just too much for Rodriguez to handle as Perez had his game face the whole time. In run 1, it was was just too much of a gap for Rodriguez to catch up. In run 2, Perez was just all over the back of Rodriguez as he captured his first ever win this season and breaks the his jinx in winning for the first time Clark International Speedway since the venue was added to the calendar in 2010.

Congratulations to Mr. Alex Perez Round 5 Champion of Lateral Drift, 2nd place Gio Rodriguez, and 3rd place Ralph Tan.

Championship Leader before round 5 for overall title was Audel Sison. He drops in points failing to make it to the final 4 and Alex Perez capitalizes, moves to top. Now Alex leads with 457 point and Audel sison with 440. A gap of 17 points, so expect this two guys gunning it for the final round 6 of Lateral Drift Championship Series on December 8, 2012 at Clark EXPO open parking grounds as we determine who will be 2012’s Philippine Drift Champion.
