Subaru Levorg Goes to Europe and this Dramatically Increases the Chance of Seeing It Here

After saying that its Levorg (essentially a WRX wagon) will remain a Japanese Domestic Model (JDM), Subaru has officially revealed that they will now start to sell it in Europe. Proof? The Japanese car company has revealed their show outline for the upcoming 85th Geneva International Motor Show and one of them is the Levorg. It will be shown with European specifications for the very first time.

Powered solely by turbocharged engines, the Levorg may be had (at least in Japan) with a 1.6-liter DIT or 2.0-liter DIT. Power ranges from 170 horsepower all the way to 300 horsepower. The transmission is Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT.

What does this mean for the Philippines? Simple. Europe, with the exception of a handful of countries like the United Kingdom, is left-hand drive. This dramatically increases the chance that the Levorg will indeed be offered for sale here. And long-time Subaru owners in the Philippines know that Motor Image, the country’s exclusive distributor of Subaru, does get European-spec models for the Philippine market. This all means careful attention must be paid towards the Levorg when it makes its debut in Geneva as it might echo the eventual model that will arrive in the Philippines.

Adding fuel to the fire, Motor Image Pilipinas General Manager, Mr. Michael Luyun did say that the Levorg will arrive in the Philippines in the fourth quarter of 2015. He confirmed so in an interview with Top Gear Philippines. The Levorg was already introduced in other markets catered to by Motor Image.

So while you’re keeping your fingers crossed, it’s worth noting that with the arrival of the Legacy and Outback, Subaru will have an increasingly diverse product range in very narrow price gap. This could make it a very difficult business case for the niche brand to grow, unless careful consideration is done to prevent further overlapping of variants and/or pricing. Plus, the Philippines has never been a wagon market. Still, let’s see if Motor Image Pilipinas can pull it off.

In other Geneva news, Subaru has also announced that the new Forester (SJ) is now available with the company’s Boxer Diesel engine mated to a Lineartronic CVT.

  1. i love wagons. My legacy is the wagon variant. I'd be the first to line up for the 2.0 turbo version if this ever comes here. Utility, looks, and understated performance....... my kind of metal.
