2025 BYD Shark 6 DMO Takes No Prisoners By Offering Power, Efficiency, Tech, And Low Cost Of Ownership (w/ Specs)

There’s no stopping BYD Cars Philippines as it launches the Shark 6 DMO—its entry into one of the most cutthroat segments in the automotive industry: the pickup truck segment. Watch our walkaround on Facebook here.

Designed from the ground up as an electrified pickup truck, the BYD Shark uses the carmaker’s Dual Mode Off-road platform. Although it retains the same rugged ladder-on-frame construction as a traditional pickup truck, the frame itself isn’t load bearing. Rather, it utilizes a Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) construction resulting in unparalleled torsional strength and rigidity. Attached to the DMO platform are independent double wishbones front and back as well as vented disc brakes all around. There’s even a traditional spare tire mounted underneath.

Powering the Shark 6 DMO is a dual electric motor setup. The front axle is pulled by a 231 horsepower/310 Nm of torque electric motor, while the rear axle is pushed by a 204 horsepower/340 Nm electric motor. Combined outputs are rated at 435 horsepower and 650 Nm making it the most powerful truck in its segment. And with a 5.7-second 0 to 100 km/h time, it’s just as fast as a Ranger Raptor V6.

The permanent magnet synchronous motors are juiced up using a 29.58-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) BYD Blade Battery giving it around 100 kilometers of EV range. Furthermore, its 12-volt battery has switched from a lead acid to a LFP construction with a 15-year lifespan. When the electrons run low, it can be charged using either an AC (7kW) or DC (55kW) connection. It can also utilize its onboard gas generator, the world’s first longitudinally-mounted EHS generator—a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder (184 horsepower, 260 Nm). As a hybrid, this pickup truck does about 800 kilometers between fill ups (up to 1,114 kilometers in BYD Cars Philippines’ local test). Other key figures? A 2,500-kilogram braked towing capacity, 1,200 liters of bed space, and 835 kilograms of payload.

For off-roaders, the Shark 6 DMO has a 31-degree approach, 19.5-degree departure, and 17-degree ramp-over angle. Ground clearance? 230 mm, while water wading is at 700 mm. Although it doesn’t have a traditional low-range 4x4 or rear lockers, its intelligent electric all-wheel drive system can precisely adjust torque distribution between the two axles faster than any mechanical system. This, according to BYD, should deliver better traction across different road surfaces. There are six terrain modes and three drive modes on offer.

Size-wise, the Shark is huge. It measures in at 5,455 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height. Guided by BYD Design Director, Wolfgang Egger, the vehicle’s design draws inspiration from its namesake. It has full-length LED lights at the front, reminiscent of a shark’s open mouth while its side proportions are marked by fluid body lines and 18-inch wheels with 265/65R18 tires. At the rear, the through-type tail light, is said to be inspired by the shark’s tail fin. The bed itself has a protective liner and has a variety of 220-volt outlets and cargo bed light. The Premium variant adds roof rails and a sports bar too.

Three colors are available for the Philippine market for the Shark 6 DMO: Deep Sea Blue, Cosmos Black, and Aurora White. Regardless of colorway, all have an all-black interior with leather seats with adjustable headrests embossed with BYD logos as standard.

With a 3,260 mm wheelbase, it ensures a large interior complete with rear seats that have a comfy 27-degree recline with a flat floor. Leveraging technology for an entirely different approach in this segment, it has two screens—a 10.25-inch display for the driver and a 12.8-inch for the infotainment. The latter, of course, still rotates. Features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power front seats, and an 8-speaker system. For the Premium grade, it adds heated/ventilated seats, a full-color heads-up display, and a full ADAS suite (Di-Pilot).

With a 5-star ANCAP rating, the BYD Shark 6 DMO comes with a full set of airbags (six) as well as ABS with EBD, stability control, front & rear sensors, tire pressure monitoring, and a 360-degree camera with see through view.

Priced at P 2,098,000 for the Shark 6 DMO Advanced and P 2,298,000 for the Shark 6 DMO Premium, it comes bundled with a free portable charger and a 7kW wall box charger. Further sweetening the deal, first-time BYD customers who complete their purchase by March 31 will be entitled to a P 50,000 discount. While current BYD owners who purchase until the end of March will receive an additional P 50,000 discount for a total of P 100,000 discount. The same maximum discount of P 100,000 will also be applied to customers who were referred by existing BYD owners. Moreover, BYD Cars Philippines also promises a low cost of ownership that saves owners up to 42 percent in PMS costs over a five-year period (P 19,882.46 per year average). Its PMS intervals are also set at just once a year.

  3. Good for personal used pang porma, just like other top of the line pick up of other brands. For business work horse diesel pick up still the best

    1. This pickup truck mainly competes with the Ranger Raptor
Not all diesel powered pickup trucks are good especially the 1.9 liter diesel engine powered D Max

  4. In a comparison between shark and ranger. The shark got worse fuel economy than a ranger. Surprising because it is a hybrid. Also it did poorly in the off road test. Byd had to explain itself in another video. Lastly 1100kms range is nothing special. A 1.9 dmax can do double that

    1. 1.9 liter D Max that you brag is underpowered that's why it's a flop in the Philippine market

  5. Very competitive price against the competition considering that you can save as much as 100k annually on fuel with a wall charger and a solar set up.

  9. Hybrid system are not really savings, if so minimal lang, except for coding it’s not worth a dime. You need to monitor two systems which will be a headache

  12. For me a pick up is like a house. I don't care about new tech. I want a tried and tested way. There are certain things that you don't gamble on.

  15. Byd shark is the 4th best selling ute in Australia. In fact BYD Australia all products have fallen off the cliff in first 2 months of 2025. Atto 3 down 77%, Dolphin down 67%, and Seal down a whopping 91%. Check the stats in Australia it is available.

    1. Kamusta Worldwide Sales ng BYD? Why Concentrate sa Country that BYD is Down? May motive ba to make BYD to look bad?

  16. Very surprising in Cebu a lot of reservation for the Shark despite the floated 2.4 to 2.7M SRP. Now that the actual price is P300k lower expect the orders to pile up. Even if the launching in Cebu is still this coming Monday yet. That will add up to the 8-10 units released daily by the showroom mostly sealion.

    2. That's called hyper ignoramus talkathon. Their mouth is faster than their brain.
It's actually amazing how BYD is able to produce a range of competitive, good quality, well-designed vehicles that seems to be a winner in most countries. From sedans, SUVs pick ups, even hyper sports cars. From subcompacts to luxe category. Hybrid and electric. Toyota and co. can't dodge the rapid fire. The damage could've been worst if the US and Europe didn't put up the tariff wall to stem the invasion.

  22. Any product bad or good, hyped up or not. Eventually only the sales figures will be the ultimate proof of success. The problem with BYD Philippines is that they won't release sales figures. That is why there is a lot of speculation about how well they are doing. Reason for doubters to hate more. And reason for Byd lovers to defend more.

    2. Some people easily swayed by new tech n fancy looks. if we will based on sales numbers, most people just want a proven reliable, durable cars at least here in ph. Even in USA the not so techie but proven reliable, durable rav4 dethroned the baddass and techie F150 as the no. Best selling vehicle.
