You're Now Looking At One Of The Most Powerful Toyotas Outside The GR Range. And It's An EV!

Toyota Motor Philippines has yet to fulfill its promise to bring in its first full electric vehicle (long rumored to be the bZ4X, until the Urban Cruiser became a candidate). But while all this is going on, Toyota has just revealed the updated bZ4X which has more power, faster charger, and longer range.

One of the best-selling vehicles in its category, Toyota will now offer the bZ4X with two battery sizes—one smaller and one larger than the outgoing model. The 57.7-kWh is mated to a front-mounted, front-drive motor with a range of 445 kilometers. Meanwhile, the 73.1-kWh pack is available in both front- and all-wheel drive with range between charges stated at 520 kilometers (AWD) to 573 kilometers (FWD).

Along with the new battery pack, the bZ4X gets new eAxles helping it deliver 167 horsepower for the base FWD variant (0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds) to 224 horsepower for the FWD larger battery pack version (0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds). The AWD, meanwhile ups that a combined 343 horsepower (0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds). The AWD makes it one of the most powerful Toyotas outside the Gazoo Racing (GR) range.

Like the Lexus RZ, a new 22-kW AC onboard charger allows for faster charging. DC charging remains at 150 kW. It also receives a battery pre-conditioning function that helps in faster charging in cold weather.

Underneath, there are suspension changes for lower noise and vibration levels.

Unlike the RZ, however, Toyota has updated the bZ4X’s exterior. The front gets the same styling first seen in the Prius and Camry with the hammerhead fascia. This, Toyota says, is more aerodynamic contributing to longer range.

Inside, the bZ4X has a larger center screen (14-inch from 12.3-inch) along with a new center console design with two wireless charging slots and a revised instrument cluster.

  1. The toyota way, always late in the game but always emerged as the champion

    1. That won’t work this time. EV buyers are completely different from ICEV buyers. Brand loyalty doesn’t mean a thing to them, they mostly want the latest and the greatest tech. Toyota is too slow for that.

    2. Champion when it comes to unreliable turbocharged gasoline engines

  2. Much better-looking infotainment without the bezel extending asymmetrically into the center console. Having been introduced in Indonesia and Thailand (pre-refresh), Toyota lost momentum until we revisit the car in this update.

    2. carguide.ph has the right to censor/delete any comments. They own the site and are duty bound to moderate/monitor it. Btw, there are many negative comments about Chinese cars here which remain as is.

I have a Haval H6 HEV MAX and a BYD SEALION 6, and both have surprisingly exceeded my expectations even as CRV AWDs and a Sorento AWD 2.2D were previous vehicles.

Btw, I don't personally know Ulysses Ang, but it's appreciated that he tries his best to respond responsibly and fairly to questions & inquiries in this section.Thank you Mr. Ang

    3. You're a brave guy. I admire that, buying cars from Haval and BYD. You got balls of steel. Keep it up!

    4. Balls of steel? Maybe not, but that can be taken as a compliment. When one's money is hard earned one has no choice but to thoroughly do his/her homework and be circumspect. In the case of automobiles it helps to be somewhat of a gearhead.

Note that among the many lists of the Top 5 Chinese Auto Brands for quality, BYD is #1, 2-4 is taken by Chery, Geely or Changan, and #5 is either SAIC or GWM(Haval). I would not consider other Chinese brands unless they are a sub-brand (Denza of BYD, Jetour of Chery) of the the Top 5.

  11. Toyota will also introduce an EV made by GAC's subsidiary. A budget version to compete against BYD. They fighting Chinese EV with a Chinese EV.
