Review: 2024 Nissan Z Premium AT

Let’s stop for a minute and admire what Nissan has done here. In an age where electrification has become the auto industry buzzword, they’ve come up with something leftfield with the all-new Z. Eschewing any motivation via electrons, it’s got a big, honking V6 driving the rear wheels. There’s even standard limited slip diff, performance brake (pads), and a no-cost option for a stick. It’s as old-school as a sportscar’s going to get and just thinking about it gets any enthusiast, myself included, all wet.

The CX-60 And CX-90: Creating SUVs The Mazda Way

Let’s recap what these two vehicles are again. The smaller of these two is the CX-60, while the bigger one is the CX-90. Both represent Mazda’s upmarket aspirations and more crucially, slot above two of the carmaker’s so-called bread-and-butter models—the CX-5 (for the CX-60) and the CX-9 (for the CX-90). This challenge puts Mazda in a unique situation—one which they solved by coming up with a totally new, clean sheet design.

Review: 2024 Mazda CX-60 3.3 HEV Turbo

The CX-60 occupies a narrow space in the market between two more traditional segments: the two-row compact SUV and the three-row mid-sized SUV. With that, it must deliver enough differentiation either to entice buyers to move up (in the case of compact SUVs) or move laterally (in the case of mid-sized SUVs). Either way, it’s got its work cut out. Having sampled the diesel-powered CX-60 3.3 HEV Turbo-D Sport before, I’d say that Mazda managed to get about 80 percent of it right. It isn’t perfect, but ultimately there’s still lots to like.

The 2024 Mazda MX-5's DSC-Track Will Help You Sharpen Your Racing Skills

Jinba-Ittai is the key concept at the heart of every Mazda, and the MX-5 is the paradigm of that philosophy. Originally known as “Jinsha Ittai,” meaning oneness between car and driver, it was a typo on a calling card that led people to call it, “Jinba-Ittai” afterward. Regardless, the underlying philosophy remains the same: it wasn’t about chasing outright speed, but rather, about providing a sense of engagement that was fun yet approachable.

An Ode To The Internal Combustion Engine: Mazda Fan Festa 2023 At Fuji Speedway

It was a traffic jam worth being in. As our bus went inside the premises of the Fuji International Speedway, we were surrounded by a gaggle of Mazdas. Most were MX-5s, CX-5s, and CX-60s, but there was an odd Mazda Luce or two. Seeing the sight, our bus driver muttered the words, “Ah, rotary engine.” While I couldn’t make out the rest of his Nihongo, his knowledge of Mazda’s trademark engine spoke volumes of the brand’s indelible mark among the Japanese, and the rest of the world for that matter.
