Toyota PH May Be Taking The Next-Generation Tamaraw Racing This Year

As an integral part of Toyota Motor Philippines’ promotional and marketing efforts in 2025, they’ll be leaning on Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) to bring excitement this year. And plans may include the possibility of taking the next-generation Tamaraw to the racetrack.

Earlier, Toyota Motor Philippines confirmed the schedule for this year’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup. Featuring the current-generation Vios, the three race weekends have been compressed from March to August. This opens the possibility of seeing another racing series come later this year according to Toyota Motor Philippines president Masando Hashimoto.

If Toyota Motor Philippines does race the next-generation Tamaraw, they may look at Thailand for inspiration where the Hilux Champ is being raced at the Super Pickup championship.

Per Super Pickup championship rules, only single-cab rear-wheel-drive trucks with diesel powertrains can enter. With that, the GR Hilux Champ uses a race-prepped version of the 2.4-liter turbodiesel. In stock format, it makes 150 horsepower, but the racing mods include a new turbocharger, larger intercoolers, a custom exhaust, and reworked intake and fuel setups. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a manual transmission.

Naturally, the GR Hilux Champ received a racy body kit with a deeper front bumper incorporating a massive cooling intake. The profile has been upgraded with fender extensions and racing wheels. The suspension’s been lowered with negative camber for added grip. At the back, there’s a large rear wing and diffuser. Inside, the cabin is stripped down with a lone Sparco bucket seat, Sparco steering wheel, and racing-spec switchgear. The roll cage is bolted directly to the ladder frame chassis.

Aside from the possibility of a one-make Tamaraw racing series, Hashimoto has confirmed that the e-sports Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup will return. Toyota also said that joint events with other brands or even a street circuit are on the table in 2025.

    1. Toyota is a based car manufacturer right? What about others? Especially who are not of Japanese origin.
