In time for 9-11 Day, Porsche Philippines announces the arrival of the first-ever electrified Porsche 911: the 911 Carrera GTS—available in both rear- and all-wheel drive.
The T-Hybrid system pushes the 911 Carrera GTS’s output to a combined 541 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque—an increase of 61 horsepower over the old 911 Carrera GTS. The foundation is a newly-developed single-turbo 3.6-liter flat-6 with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger. Even without electric assistance, the combustion engine alone delivers 485 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque. A small integrated electric motor, placed between the compressor and turbine wheel, generates 15 horsepower which harvests energy from the exhaust gas flow.
In addition, the powertrain adds a permanent magnet synchronous motor integrated into the new, more powerful 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK). Even at idle speed, it supports the engine with extra drive torque of up to 150 Nm and provides a power boost of up to 40 kW (54 horsepower). Porsche couples both electric motors to a lightweight and compact high-voltage battery. Sized like a conventional 12-volt starter battery, it scores up to 1.9-kWh of energy and operates at 400 volts. For an optimized overall weight, Porsche has installed a lightweight lithium-ion battery for the 12-volt on-board electrical system.
Both the rear-wheel drive 911 GTS and the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 GTS are available. The latter, when equipped with the PDK and the Sports Chrono package, races from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
Apart from just peak power, the 911 GTS offers better everyday usability thanks to a broad power band. The 550 Nm of torque is spread out from 2,150 to 5,000 rpm. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with the Sport Suspension is standard and this lowers the overall height by 10 millimeters. It also comes with Rear Axle Steering and a front lift system.
The GTS models stand out within the 911 model line thanks to their unique design cues. At the front, it’s immediately distinguishable by its five vertically-arranged active cooling air flaps. These are complemented by adaptive front diffusers in the underbody, which are controlled together with the cooling air flaps. The sensors for the assistance systems are now located behind a high-gloss surface below the number plate.
The wider chassis measures in at 1,852 mm, whether rear- or all-wheel drive. At the back, the GTS is unmistakable with its smoked tail lights, silk-gloss black air intake grille, and central black twin tailpipes. A new black trim strip between the taillights characterizes the rear-wheel drive models while a light strip is reserved for models equipped with all-wheel drive. GTS logos on the door complete the transformation.
The local spec 911 GTS features the Sport Design package as standard equipment. This emphasizes the GTS’s sporty character. It starts with a new front apron along with a low front spoiler. In conjunction with the increased rear spoiler extension height, it further reduces the lift. Meanwhile, the Sport Design cues continue to the side mirrors and combination 20-inch/21-inch wheels (245/35R20 front and 315/30R21 rear) with a black central locking device and a full-color Porsche Crest.
Inside, the familiar 911 design cues continue, but gets modernized with the Porsche Driver Experience control concept (10.9-inch screen) that was first introduced in the Taycan. A fully digital gauge cluster measuring 12.6-inches is located at the front of the steering wheel with a starter button located to the left side of it. At the center is a wireless charger with a cooled compartment—perfect for keeping smartphones from overheating. The seats themselves, Sport Seats Plus, are emblazoned with the GTS logo. Dual zone climate control, door sills with brushed aluminum, Sport Style pedals, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear camera are standard. Options include an 18-way power seat with memory, rear seats (a no-cost option), and a Bose surround sound system.
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and 911 Carrera 4 GTS are now available for orders at Porsche Center along EDSA, in Bonifacio Global City, and in Alabang.
