Sphero Unveils R2-D2 and BB9-E App-Enabled Droids

Sphero just unveiled their new line up of Star Wars Droids: R2-D2 and BB-9E. This was part of the global unveiling of new Star Wars toys dubbed “Force Friday II”. These toys have been kept in secret for the past few months to avoid any leaks and spoilers for the upcoming Star Wars movie – Episode 8: The Last Jedi. Sphero is the tech-company behind the popular BB-8 app-controlled toy which has sold millions since its launch last 2015.

The specialized tech in these Droids make them unlike any other. Control them with your smart phone or watch them patrol on its own autonomously. Artoo’s signature front and rear LED lights are fully functional, and an integrated speaker means the beeps and boops come right from R2-D2 itself. Meanwhile, the BB-9E houses sophisticated tech, allowing it to roll and move his dome just like on-screen, and its strong exterior allows the First Order Droid to weather any battle. Watch them interact together and view films from the Star Wars saga with BB-8, BB-9E, and R2-D2 reacting by your side.

BB-8 and BB-9E also comes with the Droid Trainer accessory which will be used for the augmented reality feature of the app. This enables users to roam iconic ship interiors and memorable locations from the Star Wars saga through holographc simulations. Each Droid has different holographic environments to explore such as the Millennium Falcon, a Star Destroyer, or a Resistance Cruiser. These iconic Droids has been brought to life like never before.

“The Sphero R2-D2 was designed to be the most realistic ever made. Sphero studied hundreds of R2-D2 toys available in the market and integrated their expertise in robotics to make it just like the Artoo in the movie. They even recorded hours of sound clips from the original Star Wars trilogy to make sure all the emotions of R2-D2 are captured. It’s the only Artoo with a retractable third leg, allowing it to switch from a 2-3-2 stance and even make him perform the adorable waddle,” says Justin Uy of Bright Spot Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Sphero in the Philippines.

Sphero’s R2-D2, BB-9E and BB-8 App-enabled Droids are now available in the Philippines at select branches of Hobbes & Landes, Power Mac, Switch, Toys “R” Us and Rustan’s Department Store. You can also order online on Geek PH, The Force Shop PH or Hubbyte. For more info, please follow Sphero Philippines on Facebook.
