Hyundai Philippines Previews All-New 2016 Elantra

After its global unveil at the brand’s Namyang R&D Center in September, Hyundai has previewed the all-new sixth-generation Elantra at the annual Christmas party for dealers, suppliers, and the media. Aiming to recapture market share and regain momentum for the Korean brand, the 2016 Elantra offers a sleeker, more dynamic appearance together with a slew of distinguished performance features.

The newest evolution of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, the Elantra boasts of an upscale appearance as well as fit and finish that gives it a “class above” feeling. Outside, it’s dominated by the large hexagonal grille flanked by slim and sporty projector headlamps for an energetic look. New wheel arches express better road presence with models getting a range of 16 or 17 inch wheels and tires. At the back, distinctive new rear combination lamps highlight width while remaining expressive and distinctive.

Inside, the Elantra gets a refined interior influenced by the Sonata and Genesis Sedan. Dashboard buttons are grouped according to functions and the dash itself is canted by 6.9 degrees towards the driver for easier operation. Rear passengers also enjoy the new luxurious touches such as the rear air conditioner vents.

There are three variants of the all-new Elantra. The entry-level ‘E’ variant is solely a 6-speed manual transmission model. Meanwhile, the mid-tier ‘S’ variant comes with a 6-speed automatic. Both of these models are powered by a carryover Gamma 1.6-liter MPI engine. Sitting atop the range is the ‘L’ variant with the Nu 2.0-liter MPI engine with 152 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque. It comes equipped solely with a 6-speed automatic.

Available features include advanced ergonomically designed leather seats with power adjustment, a moon roof, a Smart Key passive entry system with push-button start/stop, and electric folding mirrors with signal light repeaters. In terms of safety, the Elantra can be had with a rear view camera with dynamic guidelines, blind spot indicators, and front and rear proximity sensors.

The all-new Hyundai Elantra will be available in the first quarter of 2016 in five colors: Marina Blue, Phantom Black, Fiery Red, Platinum Silver, and Polar White.

    1. Korean import models will have 5% tariff instead of the usual 20% because of the Korean- Asean FTA. Base model is said to be around 828k, top of the line is around 1.2m
