Australians Are Going to Racing the Chevrolet Colorado...On Circuits!

Chevrolet (Holden in Australia) is swapping off-roading and trailing for come race circuit action as they’ve announced their entry into the new Australian-based SuperUtes ECB Series in 2018.

The race series is a production-based category which features dual or twin cab pickups powered by turbocharged diesel engines and rear-wheel drive. The organizer, Supercars, is designing this series to cater to the fast-growing “ute” or pickup segment that makes up almost 20 percent of all new vehicles sold in Australia.

Engine performance is strictly controlled to 340 horsepower and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque with a minimum weight of 1,800 kilograms. In addition, Supercars has mandated shared control components including the roll cage, pedal box, ECU, gearbox and ratios, rear axle assembly with control differential and ratios, brakes, tires, wheels, springs, and dampers. This is to maintain parity amongst brands while keeping costs down.

The striking Chevrolet Colorado built for racing is the work of GM Design Australia. It’s finished in Satin Steel Gray with a large Holden logo.

The Colorado joins the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Strada, and Mazda BT-50 in the SuperUtes ECB Series in 2018. Nissan and Volkswagen have yet to confirm whether they’re joining the racing series or not.
