MG HS Reportedly Coming Into The Philippines For P 1.258M

After launching the MG ZST last year (check out our review here), it looks like MG Philippines will be adding yet another turbocharged SUV to its line-up this year.

A tipster said that The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive distributor of MG vehicles in the country will be adding the MG HS compact SUV to its line-up by the second quarter of 2022 (check out our initial impressions here).

For the Philippine market, sources say the MG HS will be offered with a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with 169 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The sole gearbox is a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic. If this powertrain familiar, it’s the same one found in the RX5.

In fact, the MG HS and the RX5 share the same platform, although the MG HS is larger and is much more premium in its execution which would explain its price positioning. Sources say TCCCI will be bringing in two variants with the MG HS Alpha priced at P 1,258,888 and the MG HS Trophy priced at P 1,308,888.

Of course, the additional price comes with more standard features. The MG HS will reportedly come standard with a power tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a full digital gauge cluster for the Trophy.

With the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) going back to being an in-person show, it’s very likely that MG Philippines will launch, or at least preview the 2022 MG HS on April 7.

  3. Good move, aim for the ford territory/ azkarra market (1.3M range).

Leave the ZST to battle it out with the sub 1M market.

  4. Always thought that MG should have just launched the HS instead the RX5 in the first place. While I like the Germanic looks of the RX5, the HS better tied in with the styling of the ZS and MG6 at the time. Releasing the HS as a more upmarket alternative now is quite confusing. It would have been better if TCCI launched the 7-seater Hector Plus available in India instead.

    1. MG Hector Plus is only meant for RHD Indian market..We'll likely get Chevrolet Captiva instead.

  5. The pricing of the HS is the same as the Coolray Sport Limited but w a bigger soace. MG is really targeting the Coolray, Azkarra, and Territory simultaneously.

    1. Its based on a longer and much better platform.
RX5 uses the rear suspension of the previous generation VW Tiguan and copied platform from previous generation Ssangyong Korando and MG GS.

    2. Thank you for the info. But still I won't recommend RX5 to anyone. Lets see how MG HS is different.

    5. Not everyone can drop close to 2M for crossovers. Seems Aussies loves these value for 'crappy' vehicles huh?

Not everyone has the Innova mindset of typical Pinoys. Some change vehicles every 5years and don't care about resale value. Some must want the most value out of their peso.

  7. Drop the PHEV version and be the dealer that offers the cheapest plug in hybrid in the market.

  9. I saw this MG HS in January 2020 Singapore motorshow and it's has very impressive Design. Dimensions and Powertrain is a match to the Geely CoolRay and Ford Territory. If price is right it's another best seller for the MG Philippines.
