Toyota Motor PH Is Recalling The GR Yaris Because Someone Forgot To Turn On The Radar Sensor

Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling a number of its high-performance GR Yaris hatchbacks because of its Millimeter Wave Sensor.

Part of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system, the Millimeter Wave Sensor (aka radar sensor) along with a monocular camera helps the car detect objects such as another vehicle, and is integral to features like Pre-Collision Braking (PCB).

Toyota has discovered that 94 GR Yaris units, produced from June 3, 2021 to August 2, 2021 may not have its radar system initialized and/or activated. If this happens, the pre-collision braking system will not be able to detect a vehicle in front nor would it be able to provide warnings or braking assist. This may increase the risk of a crash in certain driving conditions.

Toyota says it has started to reach out to affected customers. It will then inspect and initialize the millimeter wave sensor at no cost to its customers.

  1. That's the problem w too much tech: so many things can go wrong.
If this happens w Toyota, how can we be sure about the others?
Still best to continuously improve ones driving abilities and always prioritize safety and responsibility on the road.

  2. This is so true. This is same reason what will cause customer satisfaction rating of a buyer to rate a car lower now. More tech, more point of failure. Not to mentioned mechanical ones, that it is a reality in electronics. This is the experience in our gadgets today, be it laptop, mobile, tv or whatnot. One day when you turned on the device it just fails to function even w/o external trauma to it.

This is one problem of the Toyota Sales Agent, they mostly forget to demonstrate the added active safety of the car. They priortized the DP and the reservation.

    1. It might be the other way...like the pre-collision would phantom brake. It happens. Still best to bring your car to a dealership just to have it checked. No loss to you.
