BMW Philippines Set to Unveil 2 SUVs in 2018

BMW Philippines is looking strong this 2018. Under a new distributorship, San Miguel Asia Carmakers Corporation (SMAC), the German luxury carmaker is set to introduce two important Sport Activity Vehicles (BMW talk for SUVs) this year: the all-new X3 and X2.

First up is the all-new BMW X3. Coming from a highly successful line that has sold more than 1.5 million units in two generations, the all-new X3 is set to write the next chapter in this successful story by blending a striking design language with power yet efficient engines, and even more luxurious appointments.

It features a quieter cabin thanks to improved aerodynamics and the extensive use of acoustic glass on the windshield and front glass. Furthermore, it has new LED headlights and front fog lights, LED taillights, automatic tailgate, and a twin tailpipe design. Inside, it gets features such as leather on the dashboard as well as the availability of features such as an all-digital instrument cluster, a larger 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, and more.

In terms of performance, it retains its predecessor’s perfect 50/50 front-to-back weight distribution while shedding some 55 kilograms in mass. Expected engines come from BMW’s award-winning diesel range all mated to an 8-speed automatic.

BMW Philippines is expected to launch the all-new BMW X3 (G35) by next month.

Next up, BMW is set to introduce the first-ever X2. Fresh from its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the 2018 X2 pushes the boundaries of SUVs even further by offering individuality and functionality in one eye-catching package.

Appealing to the young and young-at-heart, the X2 features BMW’s traditional double kidney grille but turned on its head—the first time it’s ever been done. Plus, it features additional BMW roundels on the C-pillar, harking back to classic models such as the 2000 CS and 3.0 CSL.

Like its platform-mate, the X1, expect the X2 to feature the same 190-horsepower 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel motor mated to an 8-speed automatic. The xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive is likely to be standard equipment as well.

Globally, the BMW X2 begins production in March with its Philippine debut expected in the second quarter of this year.

  1. In some countries, this X3 was already released early 2017. Poor Filipinos.
