In Just 2 Years, MG Has Sold Over 5,000 ZS SUVs Already

On the occasion of its second year in the Philippines, The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI), the exclusive distributor of MG vehicles in the country has revealed that its compact crossover, the MG ZS has achieved a sales milestone by crossing the 5,000-unit mark in just two years.

Since its launch in October 2018, the MG ZS has become an attractive choice for Filipinos thanks to its low price and high value positioning. From January to September of this year, MG has sold 1,598 ZS crossovers, accounting for 56 percent of MG Philippines’s 2,854 sales total.

Last year, the ZS was instrumental in helping MG breach the Philippines’s top-selling car brands. Its 5,085 tally was enough for them to overtake both Foton and Kia.

For 2021, MG Philippines will also be teasing an all-electric version of the ZS. The distributor says they will be gauging public interest first before committing to offering it locally. The ZS EV uses an electric motor to drive the front wheels. It makes 150 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, and can go up to 428 kilometers on a single charge. Plus, it has fast-charging capability as well: 80 percent of charge can be done in just 30 minutes.

MG Philippines’s second year was also marked by pronounced growth in their nationwide dealership network. Two years ago, MG started with 12 dealer partners. Today there are a total of 28 fully operational MG dealerships across the country. The expanded dealership network ensures that MG sales and aftersales services are readily accessible in more places around the Philippines. Furthermore, the total number of MG dealerships is expected yet again to grow and will total 34 before 2020 comes to a close.

“As we drive towards our second year of representing the brand MG in the Philippines, we would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to everyone on this journey of growth for MG Philippines. It has been both fruitful and fulfilling,” says Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, President and CEO of MG Philippines. “At the onset of our appointment, it was our goal to introduce stylish, high value-for-money, attainable vehicles to the local motoring public, and we were fueled by the positive reception we have received from our principals, our dealer partners, esteemed motoring journalists, valued stakeholders, and of course our increasing loyal clients. The MG brand’s British heritage and design, and the skilled entrepreneurship and progressive thinking of our principals at SAIC Motor International (SMIL), matched with the personal and sincere desire of TCCCI to serve the Philippine motoring public has created a convergence of talent, with aspirations that we will continue through the years. We look forward to the continuous support and trust of SMIL as we contribute to their objective to be the fastest growing global automotive brand and manufacturing company. The overall response to MG Philippines over the past two years has indeed been very encouraging. This provides us the optimism and drive to continue introducing exciting MG models that are recognized globally, which we will support with top-notch aftersales services so we can bring the MG brand, its models, and ownership experience closer to the Filipino motoring public.”
