Hyundai To Build Creta, Santa Fe For Southeast Asia In Indonesia

Hyundai Motor Company inaugurated its first factory in Southeast Asia. Located at the Deltamas industrial complex near Cikarang, Indonesia, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia will become the Korean automaker’s manufacturing center of Southeast Asian markets.

Last December, Hyundai completed construction of the factory with an initial production capacity of 150,000 units. Hyundai plans to invest in the plant amount of around USD 1.55 billion and the production capacity is due to be increased to 250,000 units.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia exemplifies the company’s commitment to sustainable development and vision of ‘Progress for Humanity.’ This can be seen in the use of environmentally friendly technologies, such as solar panels that can meet part of the plant’s electrical needs. In addition, Hyundai plans to use environmentally friendly water-based paints in the vehicle painting process.

Hyundai’s new plant will not only produce strategic model for the region such as the Creta SUV, but it will also manufacture the Ioniq 5 battery electric vehicle.

It will produce the Santa Fe mid-sized SUV in the first half of 2022 as well as a small MPV built specifically for the Southeast Asian market (likely based on the Indian-market Alcazar) in the second half of 2022.

Going forward, Hyundai will produce Santa Fe SUV model in the first half of 2022 and a small strategic people mover model for the Southeast Asian market in the second half of 2022 at the new Indonesian manufacturing plant.

Moreover, the company is also working with LG Energy Solutions to build a battery cell factory in Karawang, Indonesia, targeted for completion in the first half of 2023 and starting production in 2024.

    2. Yes hopefully they boot out the overpricing Lady CEO of HARI and bring sanity to Hyundai prices here. To revive the Hyundai brand, they should price the TOTL Creta at 1M with all the bells & whistles. Santa Fe should go back to the 1.5-1.8M price for the TOTL.

  3. Oh no. Hyundai and Kia HQ still have no updates about potential engine issues and vehicle recalls.
Hope what happened in Korea, the US, Canada, etc. will not happen here in the Philippines and many other countries.
