Honda Cars Philippines Reveals More Civic Details

Honda Cars Philippines is dropping more details on the 10th generation Civic as anticipation grows thanks to its regional launch in Thailand earlier this month. According to HCPI, they’re confident that the all-new 2016 Civic will be the “benchmark in its class with its aerodynamic styling, sophisticated interior, spacious cabin space, and a host of new and advanced features.”

With its launch slated by the middle of this year, HCPI has revealed more about the features pertaining to its top-end RS Turbo variant. Short for “Road Sailing”, the RS Turbo variant packs a turbocharged 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine under the hood mated to a CVT or Continuously Variable Transmission.

Along with the promise of fun-to-drive performance, the RS Turbo variant features a gloss black front grille, rear wing spoiler, LED headlights, LED front fog lights, chrome door handles, and unique 17-inch alloy wheels. In short, it pretty much looks like the Thailand market RS Turbo shown at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

Inside, it’ll feature a full-color multi-information display which shows the vehicle speed as well as vehicle-related information, text messaging, and even e-mails. This is paired with Electrostatic Steering Wheel Controls (also on the Honda Pilot) that allows the driver to switch through different functions using swipe commands. In terms of entertainment, the Civic will have a 7-inch Advanced Display Audio system that integrates a multi-view reverse camera.

Coupled with the push-start Smart Key system, the all-new Civic boasts of a remote engine start function that starts the vehicle and even turns on the automatic climate control even before entering the vehicle. The Smart Key also has a Walk-away Auto Door Lock feature that locks all doors once the vehicle senses that the Smart Key has left a perimeter range of two meters away from the vehicle.

The all-new Honda Civic will be made available in two variants: the 1.8 E and RS Turbo variant in six colors: Cosmic Blue Metallic, Midnight Burgundy Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, and Rallye Red.

HCPI has also launched a new website for the all-new Civic.

  1. Holy shit. Noong 90's pag may civic ka, madaling sumibak ng chicks sa college. Mukhang babalik na naman ito ngayong generation.

    1. the external still look ugly! how can you pick up chicks with this? girls now like to ride on tall SUVs or Pick ups. di sila mabibitin... sa baha!

    2. Doesn't look ugly. Halos pantay sila ng mazda 3. Very sporty looking. Have you seen the sylphy? Now that's ugly.

Anyway, you have a point. Chicks today are practical, gusto nga nila SUV. Napansin ko din yun. Hope this civic can change that view though. Balik 90's na naman.

    3. Are you kidding me? The Mazda is gorgeous even without those ricey kits that Honda attaches in its cars. I would take a manual civic, but not the CVT. CVT's aren't fun to drive at all. I would still pick the Mazda 3 over the new civic. If you want to bang chicks, get an SUV or a cool car like the Mazda 3.

    4. Doesn't seem like honda is putting those damn mugen/modulo kits as standard. Honestly, body kits are useless and make cars look trying hard. Well that's my opinion, its on par with the mazda 3. They both have the same long hood and sporty stance unlike any of the competition.

By the way, quoting from this article: "Coupled with the push-start Smart Key system, the all-new Civic boasts of a remote engine start function that starts the vehicle and even turns on the automatic climate control even before entering the vehicle." Dunno but I think that's a neat party trick that might get some chicks interested. A good ice breaker if you will.

    5. The DOMs will be the ones owning this and picking up chicks along the way. The young ones tend to own cross-overs or much taller cars.

    6. The reality is actually the opposite. Almost everyone driving a fortuner, montero, prado, pajero or any other SUVs are DOMs. Seriously. Mga mukhang typical na manong na manyak itsura nila.

Usually its the subcompacts and compacts that are being driven by boring corporate young professionals, not SUVs. Crossovers maybe some young people are driving them, but PPVs are usually reserved for DOMs.

  2. Would've been a perfect compact sedan if not for the CVT tranny & the lower overall height. Gone are the days wherein you can still feel the oooomph while accelerating. Plus with lower ride height, most likely sasayad ito sa mga matataas na humps and uneven road surfaces kapag papasok at lalabas ng establishments.

    1. Hi, does this mean it has lower ground clearance compared to its competitors (i.e the altis, focus, mazda 3)?

This new Civic in 1.5L Turbo and CVT is quicker than most other generations in stock form. 174Hp is still more than enough power compared to older Civics. It is even quicker than the 9th gen Civic Si coupe with a 2.4L NA engine. It can do a 0-100kmh sprint in about 7 seconds which is a second quicker than its nearest quick compact rival, Focus 1.5L Ecoboost.

    3. Yan problema sa mga tao ngayon. Kapag CVT, may preconception na mabagal at rubbery. Guys, CVT have already improved. Subukan niyo muna yung mga latest na CVT. Don't just base your opinion on previous experiences with it. Be open-minded and stop being stubborn.

    4. It's not all about the quickness of the car. The Mazda MX-5 has only 155hp but reviewers and enthusiasts pick it as the most fun to drive car in its segment. It's the driving dynamics and an excellent transmission, Mazda's have both. Still, I would pick the Civic for practicality and the Mazda 3 for driving fun.

    5. Whatever you guys say, CVT's are CVT's. Yes i have tried modern CVT's, even the Forester XT CVT & current gen Honda City CVT's among others. It has improved from older ones but a CVT simply doesn't perform as good as a conventional automatic tranny, atleast as of now.

Also take into consideration its dreaded maintenance. It's not an opinion, it's based from experience.

      You're a weak, simple-minded, stubborn fool.

First, madali lang naman maintenance ng CVT, just change the fluid regularly which is what you should be doing to all transmission, be it manual or conventional automatic. So that's not a problem to begin with.

Second, the honda city's CVT performs like a regular torque converter automatic because they indeed equipped it with a torque converter. If you don't believe me look it up. The city's CVT is coupled with a conventional torque converter. Basically what you're saying is BS, the city feels like a conventional automatic. The only time you'll be feeling the CVT's downside is when you push the car extremely hard which has about 2% chance of happening because aside feom the traffic preventing you, this is a f***ing family car, not a race car.

Not sure about the Subaru's CVT. Didn't try it yet.

    7. you are speaking ahead of yourself here. know all the facts first. CVTs are pricey to maintain and you cant change the cvtf by yourself. CVTs are so effin sensitive it has to be done in the casa. 2nd, CVTs dont perform like your normal torque converter AT with 4,5 or 6speeds. It has no gears.

      Delete
    8. Oh really? Did you know that they programmed the new CVTs to perform like real conventional automatic with gears? Meaning you can never really feel that they are CVTs unless you push it too hard. You people haven't probably really tried newer CVTs. Hell, just refer to the video that one commeneter posted below. The video says that the CVT does feel like a regular automatic.

Yeah about the CVT, yes the parts are expensive BUT if you maintain it diligently (replace the fluids regularly and don't drive like a maniac), you'll have no problem and you'll never have to fix anything for as long as you own the car until you sell it. CVT fluid is not that expensive.

    9. its called fake shifts. I drove a 2016 altima xtronic cvt in dubai and still doesnt feel like the geared ATs youre saying. even the DCTs feels like a regular ATs - only smoother. Jatco supplies CVTs for nissan, suzuki, mitsubishi and shares the same set up with the earthdreams CVT. Also, CVT parts are not replaceable. you buy them as a whole.

    10. Hell yeah! I agree with Anonymous March 31, 2016 6:49pm.

You cannot replace parts in a CVT if & when it breaks down, you gotta replace the whole assembly. Even the mechanics hate it. And oh? If you're really familiar with cars, you should know. Even car racers & the simple car afficionados hate CVT's

      P.S. You're a stupid, senseless & faux car afficionado. You're a gayshit, for you love CVT's LOL!

      Delete
    11. You probably won't replace the CVT ever if you follow the maintenance. So that's not a discussion that's worth our effort. CVTs today feel like regular automatics. Almost 90% of people would say that. The 10% are the ones who haven't tried it or are old-school "enthusiasts" that are closed minded.

You're just like I said, a weak, simple-minded, stubborn fool. Can't accept the reality kid.

    12. Mr.lolotic, cvt belts breaks and jump pulleys when gone slack from tension even with religious maintenance. Google is your friend.

      Delete
    13. Yeah eventually every part will break but the question is when? Probably by the time something breaks, you've already sold the car.

    14. OK, enjoy your manual tranny in the traffic... :P

  3. Ground clearance is also a concern for me but that said, looks like honda is definitely back in form. They should upgrade the accord soon.

    2. My guess is that its still probably 150mm. Nothing we can do about it. Sasabit talaga mga sedan dito sa ating bansa.

    3. Civic is lower by a few mm's than the Mazda 3. Most likely sasabit nga talaga which is a turn off.

    4. Mazda 3 is 155mm, civic is 150mm. I don't think 5mm will spell a whole lot of difference. For comparison, the Rav4 is 160mm and the subaru wrx is 135mm.

It's only fun to look at, not drive. Reviewers from North America did not find the Civic's CVT fun at all. Cvt's are not fun to drive. Where's the so called fun to drive performance in that. Reviewers said that the Mazda 3 is still the most fun to drive car in the C segment. I also don't like the front look of the Civic. -Just my opinion

    1. not only the front but the back also look ugly! honda lost it! they cant design a good looking car anymore!

    2. Uhh since when have they designed good-looking cars? As far as I know, this is one of the better looking cars they've designed so far.

  7. I like how you people put the "fun to drive" aspect above all else considering you'll be spending 95% of the time in traffic. We're not in America, the only time you'll be having "fun" is going to provinces but even then, there are so many annoying trucks and tricycles that ruin the experience. What you need in the Philippines is a frugal, decent-looking, no-nonsense car that will get you from point A to point B. Opt to buy a gorgeous car and you risk having scratches made by local tambays that have nothing better to do with their life.

    1. You're practical minded and I respect your opinion. But some of us like a fun to drive and a gorgeous, and affordable car that is also fuel efficient as well. Speaking of decent no nonsense car, the first thing that comes to my mind is a vios and an altis which are appliance cars. Traffic is still tolerable in my opinion(I drive around Makati area). The vios and the altis are good cars, no doubt. But the Mazda 2 and 3 are the better cars than those 2(Specwise and in actual experience). I also like the Civic but the front look and interior puts me off. -Just my opinion

  10. The Civic sedan is discontinued in Japan, right? I applaud Honda for a job well done on this new Civic. Funny how people reacted positively to the butt-ugly and horrible 8th gen Civic when it was released 2006 (or was it 2007), along with the totally forgettable 9th gen Civic. The turbo engine is good, so what about Honda NA enthusiasts? I would still choose the Mazda 3 and the Ford Focus Ecoboost over this Civic. Heart wins over mind.

    1. Probably. With all the technology that comes with it, you really have to pay premium. If you're ok with tighter interior and less technology then yeah, the ford focus is a great choice especially the model priced at 1M.

    2. As per what I heard from Honda BGC, the new Civic 1.5L Turbo will be released late May or early June. The price will be around 1.38M.
