Its official launch is slated at the Manila International Auto Show in April, but if you happen to be at Subaru showrooms, you’ll probably see a glimpse of the 2022 Forester already on display there.
The 2022 Forester incorporates Subaru’s new BOLDER design language that gives this compact SUV a more dynamic and solid look. The most notable changes are, of course, things like the re-shaped bumpers, headlights, grille, and 18-inch wheels.
Carried over from the pre-facelift version is the powertrain and for that, it’s a 2.0-liter flat-4 making 156 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque mated to a CVT driving all four wheels.
While the drivetrain has been carried over, engineers did tweak the suspension for better ride and added handling precision.
Headlining Subaru’s compact SUV is the latest-generation Subaru EyeSight system. EyeSight 4.0—(the same system found in the Outback) enables the Forester to conform to Level 2 semi-autonomous driving technology. It adds automatic lane centering on top of current functionalities such as autonomous emergency braking and all-speed adaptive cruise control. An infrared and driver-facing camera also offers gesture controls as well as a personalized smart facial recognition and driver fatigue detection.
Other key standard features include leather seats, power adjustment for the front seats, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers, aluminum sports pedals, and a power tailgate.
So far, Motor Image Pilipinas is offering just one grade for the updated Forester and that’s the fully-loaded Forester 2.0i-S EyeSight. The best part is that the added features don’t equate to a higher price. The 2022 Forester retails for P 2.068 million (same as the outgoing model). To further entice buyers, there’s even a P 50,000 introductory discount (net SRP: P 2.018 million).
