Refreshed Peugeot 2008 Shows Off New Shifter Design

The Peugeot 2008 sub-compact SUV has just been teased for the Philippine market with a possible launch at the Manila International Auto Show, but in Europe, it’s already seen with its first minor refresh.

The changes are centered around one thing: a new automatic gear shifter design. The current BMW-like electronic lever concept shared with the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 has been replaced by a new toggle switch that takes up far less space and integrates better with the Peugeot i-Cockpit design.

This new control allows the different modes to be selected, Reverse (R), Neutral (N) and Drive (D) via the sleeker looking toggle. Two remote buttons complete the functions: Park (P), and Manual button (M) to manually select the gear engaged using paddles located behind the steering wheel.

In terms of materials, it combines satin chrome, piano black, and a carbon-look for the wrist rest.

Moreover, the 6-speed automatic (AT6 III) has been replaced by a new 8-speed automatic (EAT8) with idle start/stop functionality. Motive power though still remains the same: a 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with 130 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque.

Do you prefer this new kind of shifter design, or should Peugeot have stuck with the traditional lever?

    1. We're still getting the 2022 version, but apparently in Europe, the Peugeot 2008 has just been upgraded for 2023.
