Here Are The Full Specs, Prices Of The 2023 MG GT (w/ Specs)

Inflation’s hitting car buyers pretty hard these days. If you try to think of a sporty sedan priced below P 1.1-million, your mind will probably end up blank. Thankfully, that’s no longer the case because here comes the newest member of the MG Philippines family: the 2023 MG GT and it come with a price capped off at just P 1,193,888.

MG’s been making in-roads here in the Philippines for one thing: value. From the MG 5 to the HS, they’ve always offered class-above features at prices you almost couldn’t believe. Now, you can also add a hint of performance into the mix as well.

Starting with that sets the MG GT apart from everyone else is the availability of a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine on the Sport variant.

With 161 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque on tap, it’s the sub-compact segment’s most powerful offering. True enough, its 0 to 100 km/h time is quoted at around 8 seconds. Oh, and yes, there’s none of that CVT nonsense paired with the turbo. Instead, there’s MG’s 7-speed wet-type dual clutch transmission (TST).

The best bit? It’s priced at just P 1,193,888. Talk about being inflation proof.

Now, if you want something more affordable, there’s also the MG GT Alpha. This entry-level model drops the turbo, gains a CVT, and is priced at just P 1,015,888. This one ditches the turbocharged engine for a normally aspirated 1.5-liter 4-cylinder making 113 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque. Its i-CVT gearbox with eight simulated gears helps it achieve a 20 km/L-plus fuel economy rating.

Now, whatever variant of the MG GT you have your sights on, you can add styling to its list of attributes.

The MG GT is a stunner, no matter how you look at it. The first model to get MG’s third-generation family design, it’s characterized by the “Digital Flaming Grille” and the largest MG emblem upfront. Complementing this are narrow LED headlights.

Its styling goes from strength-to-strength with the fastback-like silhouette (it’s a sedan, though), emphasized by the end-to-end chrome line at the side, generous alloy wheels (16 or 17 inches), and at the back, 3D racetrack-inspired LED taillights and an upturned ducktail spoiler neatly integrated into the trunk lid.

It’s hard to imagine how big the MG GT is, but like most other MG products, it’s an in-betweener in terms of size. In this case, it’s bigger than your average sub-compact, and in some cases, it’s just as big as some compact sedans.

Inside, the MG GT gets black leather seats with heavy-bolstered buckets for the front passengers for the sake of support. To the front of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel, while at the center is a 10-inch tablet-style infotainment system with 6 speakers. Of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

The dashboard design itself is inspired by a fighter jet and you can see that in the gear knob and, get this, aviation-grade aluminum accents. It's also filled to the brim with class-above luxury features with everything from an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a sun roof, and a smart keyless entry with push-button start-stop. Oh, and yes, it’s got an advanced air purifier system too.

The MG GT’s sportiness is baked in thanks to its sports-tuned chassis. Now, the term is being thrown around a lot, but in this case, this sedan backs that up with the use of aerospace-grade aluminum and laser welded body.

Another thing is that its Electronic Stability Program or ESP incorporates Cornering Brake Control or CBC. This allows the MG GT to selectively apply the brakes during hard cornering to restore traction. This reduces understeer making the handling more precise and neutral. It also gets four-wheel disc brakes as standard.

Befitting MG’s reputation for offering great value, the MG GT also comes with a long list of safety equipment. Front and side impact airbags, ABS with EBD, and ESP are standard. On the MG GT Sport, it adds curtain airbags and advanced driver assist functionalities such as Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera.

The all-new MG GT serves as a warning shot to everyone else MG Philippines is ready to offer more than just value-oriented products. They’re now ready to offer something cool, amazing, and downright evocative. It serves as living proof of MG’s challenger brand status where they continually deliver cars that exceed expectations.

As mentioned, the MG GT is available in two variants: the MG GT Alpha for P 1,015,888 and the MG GT Sport for P 1,193,888.

It’s now available for reservation at any of MG’s authorized dealerships nationwide with customer deliveries starting in January 2023.

    1. Nuclear Yellow and Flame Red are exclusive colors to the GT Sport. The GT Alpha gets gray (and black, I think), while white is shared between the two. I didn't include the colors here because I wasn't sure of their exact names (except for the exclusive GT Sport colors).
