2026 Toyota Vios Hybrid: This Is It

After a short tease, Toyota launches the all-new Vios (Yaris Ativ) Hybrid in Thailand, the first market in the world to receive the electrified small sedan.

The Vios HEV is powered by the same engine found in the Yaris Cross HEV. The 1.5-liter 2NR-VEX 4-cylinder engine makes a combined output of 111 horsepower—91 horsepower and 121 Nm from the combustion engine and 80 horsepower and 141 Nm from the electric motor. This is mated to an E-CVT, while electrical power is supplied by a lithium-ion battery pack. Toyota reckons it can do up to 29.4 km/L based on the UN R101 fuel testing standards.

The Yaris Ativ HEV, as it’s known in Thailand, comes in two variants—the HEV Premium and HEV GR Sport.

The exterior design of the HEV Premium model features a dark chrome upper grille, a metallic grey lower grille, and newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels. The interior is fully equipped with convenient functions, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charger, and an automatic climate control with rear air vents and PM2.5 filter.

Meanwhile, for the HEV GR Sport model, it offers a sleek, sporty aesthetic with a newly-designed front grille featuring the GR logo and a full GR-S body kit, which includes front bumper skirt, side skirt set, rear bumper skirt and rear spoiler, newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, black roof with black power-adjustable side mirrors with LED turn signals and automatic folding. The interior features black synthetic leather seats with the GR logo and a 6-speaker Pioneer sound system. The driving experience is made even more thrilling with a specially tuned suspension and Electric Power Steering (EPS).

Both models receive Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) that’s been upgraded with Lane Keeping Control (LKC). This is on top of 6 SRS airbags, electronic stability control, blind spot monitors with rear cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and dash cam.

The Yaris Ativ HEV / Vios HEV is produced at Toyota’s Gateway plant in Chachoengsao using 73 percent local parts sourced within Thailand.

It is priced at 729,000 baht (P 1,277,000) for the HEV Premium and 779,000 baht (P 1,364,000) for the HEV GR Sport.

Toyota Thailand is confident of selling 20,000 units of the hybrid Vios models in its first year and has confirmed that it will be exported to more than 23 countries around the world.

  1. BYD Seal Dmi5 is waving at P995,000.

    1. Test drove the Seal 5 and its ride leaves much to be desired of. It feels unstable at high speeds which doesn't inspire any confidence over long term reliability.

    2. Vios also waving goodbye at byd seal in terms of sales at close to 50000 per year

    3. If this comes here at roughly the same price (if not more) in the above article I wonder how much of that 50,000 will change given na mostly price conscious ang buyers nyan. The Vios has also had over 20 years to build up to those annual sales so it's a fool's errand to compare sales numbers with a newcomer (specs and price are fair game tho).

My speculation is that TMP will NOT bring this to the Philippines or if they will it won't replace the lower trims already on sale. I don't think they want to risk losing the cash cow of pinoy buyers who are happy to buy nearly 50000 units annually of the locally assembled (and one generation behind) Vios.

    4. I think Vios sales will remain roughly the same. The hybrid will replace the 1.5 to model. Whether the 1.3j the mid spec and top of the line they are all Vios and counted in the sales chart as same model.

    5. The 1.5 HEV replacing the 1.5 G grade/trim makes sense, or maybe even the 1.3 XLE and XE grade/trim combined. I think Toyota did that before where, CMIIW, the Corolla Altis (E120) replaced the Lovelife Corolla (E110) 1.3 XE and 1.6 GLi grades then the Lovelife 1.3 XL grade stayed for a few years for the taxi fleet.

  2. Is it possible for TMP to just import the AC100 as a hybrid-only model simply under the “Ativ” nameplate (like they did with the Zenix) while selling it alongside the locally-assembled Vios as a higher-end offering?

  3. The price is neck and neck with the new ford territory hybrid. The choice is easy- get the bigger CUV instead.

  4. On paper hard to beat territory. But I've heard so much negative reliability reviews you will think twice about the ford.

    1. How can u say that? Negative reviews sa hybrid territory?.. the new territory hybrid is just recently launched. Wala pang long term owners nyan.. ur brains must be elsewhere.

    2. At nearly 1.3m, the territory isn't the only option to consider. They're pricing themselves out of the typical Vios demographic at that point.

    4. Nothing was said about the hybrid territory. The negative reviews is for the ice territory. If you can't get the basic car right. What more with a more advanced hev. Next time try reading it will help you a lot

  5. For Next Generation Vios in the Philiplines is now imported from Thailand instead locally produced from Santa Rosa Plant.

  7. > PHP 1 mio could be a tough sell, but this is Toyota. Here's to hoping the hybrid tech trickles down to the J or base trims.

    1. The J trim is out of luck since (as far as I know) Toyota has no manual hybrids.

  8. This market segment is shrinking fast. More than 25% drop in 2025 alone and is expected to drop further in the coming years in favor of crossovers/SUVs.

  9. Looking good but how much? Will they price themselves out of the market considering a lot of competition?

  10. The current Vios is perfect for the target market. It's only fault is that it's "old." I would trust the quality of this car than the new one that's a Daihatsu.

  11. Maybe, TMP will strip off some of the features to maintain the price for the budget conscious Filipinos

    1. Stripping off nearly 300k worth of stuff to reach 1m (at least) is gonna be a stretch. Take the Seal 5, for example, to go down 250k from the premium model BYD had to remove the 360 cam (rear only), auto folding side mirrors, sunroof, extra speakers, etc. In the case of the Vios, stuff like the mirrors and extra speakers are only available in the GR Sport trim so there's even less left to trim from the HEV Premium. If they went barebones about it and only kept the HEV bits it'd probably still be a 150-200k-ish bump in price compared to our current models (you also have to consider that you'd have to jump up to the 1.5 liter engine since I don't think Toyota has a 1.3 liter hybrid engine).

  12. Can the Philippines produce or assemble hybrid cars locally?

  13. Except that it's not Hybrid, i already saw such similar model in Saudi Arabia way back 2023-2024. Toyota Vios here is named as Toyota Yaris in KSA. If there is a way i can show the picture to support my claim; it means that SEA market are 3 years behind when it's already been sold in Middle East

    1. Non hybrid cars cannot use an E-CVT transmission.

    2. We're still on the 3rd gen Vios. 4th gen Vios came out 3 years ago so you are correct, except that most of SEA have the 4th gen but not the Philippines. Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Malaysia all are on 4th gen since 2022-23.

Toyota is happy to keep selling us the old model because of poor competition. Will that change with the newer competition? We will see.

    3. Agree with the guy above. No contest for the 3rd gen vios in PH. We'll have to wait and see as to what Toyota intends to do with the 4th gen Vios for PH. Obivously, they still need to bring it to PH. The question is how will they position it in the market and WHEN will it arrive... (1) As a "new" model alongside 3rd gen similar to the Innova/Zenix mix? (2) As a top of the line or top tier (2 to 3 models?) for the curent Vios line up? (3) Totally replace the 3rd gen Vios & have the complete 4th gen J model & up?
