After being named as a finalist to the 2025-2026 Japan Car of the Year, the Honda Prelude has continued to impress the press and experts with another Car of the Year nomination. This time, Honda’s re-born sports coupe has been named across the pond as a finalist for the 2026 North American Car of the Year.
The 2026 Honda Prelude is inspired by fun-to-drive performance, legacy of innovation, and dynamic styling of earlier generations of the sports coupe. The first-ever electrified Prelude advances the “joy of driving” for a new generation of buyers, as the first model to pair the award-winning Honda two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain with high-performance chassis hardware from the iconic Civic Type R.
Moreover, the new 6th-generation Prelude marks the debut of Honda S+ Shift, an innovative new drive mode that simulates a performance transmission for the ultimate electrified Honda driving experience, including virtual rev-matched downshifts and gear holding, plus enhanced engine sounds to increase driver feel and connection with the vehicle.
Prelude offers precise steering, responsive handling and fun-to-drive feel to deliver an engaging grand touring experience, while remaining comfortable for everyday driving.
The Prelude joins the Nissan Sentra and the Dodge Charger as the two other finalists named.
Meanwhile, the Hyundai Palisade was also named as a 2026 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year finalist alongside the Lucid Gravity and the Nissan Leaf.
Finally, for the 2026 North American Truck of the Year, the Ford Maverick Lobo, Rami 1500 Hemi, and Ram 2500 were named the finalists.
The finalist vehicles were selected via ballots from NACTOY’s jury, which is comprised of respected automotive journalists who produce content for a variety of print, broadcast, and digital media in the U.S. and Canada.
While evaluation criteria include outstanding innovation, design, performance, driver satisfaction and value, each juror has their own method for assessing vehicles. Their industry expertise, unique assessment processes, and independence from any single publication lend credibility to each year’s slate of winners and sets NACTOY apart from similar “car of the year” awards.
Good luck.Honda
