Honda thinks it can still make a 6-cylinder engine work in a time at time where electrification along with a shift towards small displacement 4-cylinder engines seem to be the norm.
The Japanese carmaker has just confirmed that a next-generation V6 engine is in the pipeline—one that’s engineered to comply with stringent environmental regulations. Forming the foundation of its large-size hybrid system, it’ll come with newly-developed electric drive units and battery packs to boot.
According to Honda engineers, this new electrified V6 is around 30 percent more efficient than conventional combustion-only V6s, while also offering 10 percent better performance during full throttle applications.
The key to this is a new energy management control system which further optimizes the drive modes in accordance with driving conditions. This is on top of the electric drive unit and battery system being made more efficient.
Honda is targeting this new V6 engine to be released in D-segment (and larger) vehicles from the second half of the 2020s.

We could possibly be seeing an electrified Honda Accord with V6 engine.
