The Mitsubishi L300 And Mirage Are Produced In The Philippines "Guilt-Free"

Good news! The Mitsubishi L300 and Mirage are now produced using clean energy. This as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’ Santa Rosa, Laguna assembly plant has now switched to using 100 percent renewable energy.

The 23-hectare plant, which has an annual capacity of 50,000 units, says the move is driven by its carbon neutrality goals. 20 percent of total energy used at the manufacturing site is generated by its 4.2-megawatt solar PV system, while the remaining 80 percent is procured solely from renewable sources.

Apart from energy generation, the MMPC Santa Rosa, Laguna plant has also achieved “plastic packaging neutrality” for all sold vehicles. Plastic packaging neutrality means balancing the plastics used with an equivalent amount of plastics removed from the environment. In addition, the paint oven is now designed to consume less LPG fuel. A waste heat recovery system has also been implemented eliminating boiler dependency.

The carmaker has also undergone a 100-hectare reforestation project to act as its “carbon sink.”

MMPC’s efforts are in line with the calls of the Philippine government’s Climate Change Commission in February for public and private sectors in the country to work together and invest in renewable energy, climate-resilient infrastructure, and green technologies to help reduce emissions, drive economic growth, and generate more jobs.

“At MMPC, we champion sustainable growth guided by our care for the environment and the communities we serve. By embracing green manufacturing, we not only support the government’s drive toward carbon neutrality but also inspire confidence among customers who value sustainability and responsible business practices. We are shaping a future where progress goes hand in hand with a cleaner, healthier, and safer world for generations to come,” said Mr. Marfel Ancheta, MMPC Vice President for Safety, Health and Environment.

  2. Expect a hefty price bump. Those environment-friendly stuff are quite expensive.

    1. Well any asset and tech investments are expensive. But it does not mean it will always translate to hefty price bump. It's really funny how negatron pinoys always find ways to turn a positive thing into negative.

    2. Yes. They're just marketing strategies. But mind you, those recycled stuff are not as good as virgin materials.

  3. They need to manufacture another model here (i.e. Xpander) to maximize their investment.

    1. It'll make the Xpander more expensive.
MMPC plans to start the production of the updated Mirage hatchback with newer face next year.

    2. With salary and energy costs not factored in, perhaps the problem is PH supply chain. A lot of components cannot be sourced locally hence, they keep Xpander in IN.
