Mazda’s race cars don’t just aim to beat the competition on the racetrack, but they’re cleaning the air as they drive too. First shown at the Japan Mobility Show, the CO2 capture system in the Vision-X Coupe, it was installed in the #55 Mazda Spirit Racing 3 Future Concept.
The Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture captures roughly 20 percent carbon dioxide from the exhaust and puts them in a dedicated tank. It draws exhaust gases through a drying process and binds the carbon to a crystalline zeolite substrate. The captured gas is then stored in an onboard tank which will need to be swapped or emptied. The spent CO2 could potentially be repurposed as a raw material for recycled plastics or industrial processes.
Last November 15 and 16, the Mazda Spirit Racing 3 Future Concept ran the Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture. In addition, it ran on biodiesel fuel—a carbon neutral fuel that’s already been put to practical use in Europe. As a result, this race car is carbon negative.
Mazda says they will continue demonstration experiments in the Super Taikyu Series next season to increase CO2 recovery rates.

It should have filter/s in order to capture carbons thus clean the air. We don't know that when they're put these into production if they'll work or not.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what will happen if we cover our car's exhaust pipes? Maybe we won't contribute to air pollution too haha. Or put a plastic at the exhaust.
