Mazda is slowly turning itself into a crossover company with the unveil of not just one, but two crossover concepts at the Japan Mobility Show: the Vision X-Coupe and the Vision X-Compact. The “X” is pronounced as “cross” signifying that these two are crossovers.
Both show off a further evolution of the Kodo – Soul of Motion design language, now with an upright front-end like the Mazda6e and EZ-60.
Measuring at 5,050 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, the Vision X-Coupe sports an ultra-long 3,080 mm wheelbase. Underneath, it integrates a two-rotor turbocharged rotary engine with a powerful electric motor and high-voltage battery. It makes 510 horsepower, says Mazda, and goes 160 kilometers in electric power and up to 800 kilometers when operating in combination with the engine.
Meanwhile, the Vision X-Compact which measures in at 3,825 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height (2,515 mm wheelbase), may preview a potential replacement to the Mazda2. It comes with an AI-powered driving companion that can engage in natural conversation with the driver. Already announced previously, the eventual production model is going to be built in Thailand with plans to export it globally.
At the show, Mazda also showed off its new brand symbol. The new version of Mazda’s brand symbol inherits the spirit of its symbol introduced in June 1997, representing the letter ‘M’ with the evocation of soaring wings.
The streamlined form enhances visibility, particularly in digital environments, resulting in a more refined design. The new version of the wordmark, launched alongside it, adopts a modern style. The new version of the brand symbol and wordmark will be applied “optimally according to location and media characteristics to enhance global brand recognition” says Mazda.

That vision x looks super bad*ss!
ReplyDeletemore like it's bad & A5$
DeleteThis should be powered by rotary engine as range extender. Hope these designs will go into production.
ReplyDeleteThe Vision X-Compact looks somewhat like a Volkswagen Beetle but sleeker much.
ReplyDeleteAm very surprised with this supposedly all new Mazda 2. Finally an all new small car from Mazda. Noticed that the height of these 2 new concepts is almost the same with the current Mazda 3. A genius move since they market these as crossovers while in reality, these seem to be a sedan and a hatchback.
ReplyDeleteIf they could turn all that empty dash space on the Compact into usable open shelves, maybe with partitions and/or attachment points for accessories like some other cars have, then that could be a very nice and quirky car.
