Are dealers now revealing key features and specs of the upcoming Mitsubishi Versa? That may be the case as it inches closer to its showroom launch.
To recall, Nissan first announced that it had secured an OEM supply arrangement with alliance partner Mitsubishi last May. The OE supply arrangement goes both ways, covering a Triton-based Navara for the Oceania markets, an Outlander PHEV-based Rogue for North America and a van specifically for the Philippine market.
Several months later, the Versa nameplate was all but confirmed when it appeared in official LTO homologation paperwork. At the time, the Versa was listed to have a length of 4,710 mm in length, a width of 1,990 mm, and a height of 1,695 mm. Its wheelbase is listed at 2,555 mm.
Moreover, paperwork revealed its powertrain: a 2.5-liter diesel. Given this is an OE supply arrangement, the likely engine is the YD25 DDTi engine (also used by Nissan) that helps put out 129 horsepower and 356 Nm of torque.
Other pieces of information confirmed there include the wheels and tires—195/80 R 15 C (same as the Urvan), a curb weight of 2,011 kilograms, and a payload capacity of 1,389 kilograms.
Fast forward to now, and here are more bits of information about the Versa.
According to Mitsubishi sales agents, the Mitsubishi Versa will take on the “Versa Van” name formally and will be launched sometime in February.
The same 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine is listed but this time, they have confirmed that the sole “GLX 2.5 D” variant will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 65-liter fuel tank. These tie in nicely with the mechanical specifications of the narrow body NV350 Urvan.
Additionally, agents have listed a 15-seater configuration, dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD. Although unmentioned, it should also have vehicle stability control which the UV350 Urvan has.
And then, we have the first photos. It shows that the Versa Van will basically be a copy of the NV350 Urvan down save for the grille. It’ll also to sport material black bumpers and full covers for the 15-inch steel wheels.
Now, we get to the most awaited part: the price. According to agents pre-selling the Versa Van, it’ll be priced at P 1.649-million. This should make Nissan dealers breathe easier since it’s more expensive than both the 15- and 18-seater versions of the NV350 which are priced at P 1,570,000 and P 1,560,000, respectively.
If that sounds like a bit of a bummer, who knows. Don’t count out the Versa Van just yet. The NV350 Urvan, if you remember, is spartanly speced so maybe Mitsubishi could include a fancier infotainment system or something else.
All eyes are on Mitsubishi this February to see what sort of twist they can offer with the Versa Van.
