Your Speed-Sensing Door Lock Prayers Have Been Answered as Honda Equips It in 2017 Civic

Honda Cars Philippines is finally addressing the single biggest complaint about the all-new Civic: the lack of speed-sensing door locks. Though I personally don’t see any problem of pressing a lock/unlock button to secure my doors, it seems some people have made a big deal about it. And now, your prayers have been answered; that is if you’re in the market for the Civic 1.8 E.

For new stocks arriving at dealerships nationwide, the 2017 Civic 1.8 E now comes with a Speed Sensing Auto Door Lock feature that conveniently bolts all the doors when the car reaches 15 km/h. This provides an extra layer of convenience and protection for people who would otherwise forget to lock the doors themselves.

Along with the Speed Sensing Auto Door Lock feature, the 2017 Civic 1.8 E also gains power folding side mirrors which allow the driver to retract his side mirrors at the push of a button. Again, this gives an extra layer of convenience and security, especially for owners who park in tight spaces.

When asked, HCPI representatives said that only the 1.8 E will have the Speed Sensing Auto Door Lock feature for now. No timeline is available yet as to when the range-topping RS Turbo will also gain that feature as standard.

That being said, there is an aftermarket solution available which requiring plugging into the car’s OBD port to turn on features like the speed sensing door locks. Though this has become a popular solution to tenth-generation Civic owners, Honda Cars Philippines cautions against the use of such means.

Going back to the subject of the 2017 Honda Civic 1.8 E, the addition of the speed sensing door locks and power folding mirrors have netted at P 15,000 increase in the SRP. The 1.8 E is now P 1,103,000 while the 1.8 E Modulo is at P 1,158,000.

The color palette of the 2017 Civic 1.8 E remains the same: Cosmic Blue Metallic, Midnight Burgundy Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, and White Orchid Pearl (additional P 20,000).

  1. The RS Turbo don't have speed sensing door locks at 1.4m, seriously? And the Civic E keeps increasing its price. Just for 140k more, the Mazda 3 2.0 R 2017 is a better buy than the Civic E and RS Turbo. It has tons of equipment and features that even the RS doesn't have.

    1. Civic RS > Mazda 3

Your Mazda 3 will just eat the Civic RS dust.

    2. The Civic RS will eat the Mazda 3 in a straight line but the Civic will lose to the Mazda in curvy winding mountain roads. Still it doesn't change the fact that the Civic both the E and RS are under-equipped and overpriced.

    3. The Mazda 3 2.0 R you're talking about may have some equipments that are missing in the Civic but in return, the Civic RS also has some far more valuable equipments that are missing in the Mazda 3 2.0R. You're just hallucinating with your thought that the Mazda 3 can beat in the Civic even in the mountain twists.

The truth is, Mazda 3 owners cower in fear everytime they get pitted against the Civic RS as they'll surely get their candy ass beaten.

    4. Valuable equipment such as android/apple car play? What else? The Mazda 3 is the best handling car in its class, the Civic will definitely lose in curvy mountain roads due to its avg handling and body roll compared to the Mazda 3. Cower in fear? The Civic RS is faster than the Mazda 3 by only a second, so what's the big fuss? The Impreza is worse, at 11+ secs to 100km/h. They wouldn't cower in fear of a Thai built, CVT tranny, under-equipped and overpriced Civic.

    5. The 6 stage airbags (10pcs all in all) that are present in the Civic RS while the 2.0R has 4 stage & the speed version 6 stage (6 pcs only). The Hill Start Assist & the electronic seat adjustment in Civic that are absent in the 2.0R too.

Handling? Both has Mac Person Struts (front) & Multi Link (rear). You're just clearly hallucinating about your so called average handling of the Civic.

    6. The Civic RS only has 6 airbags, not 10. Is the 155k price difference worth it for the hill start, 2 airbags and the electronic seat adjustment? And the 2.0 R has a sunroof, dual exhaust, automatic folding mirrors, automatic speed sensing locks, HUD, DVD, GVC, dual zone climate control, rear parking sensors and camera which aren't in the Civic RS, and don't let me include the Mazda 3 Speed which adds a 9 speaker BOSE sound system, blind spot indicators.

About handling, every car reviewer all over the world will tell you that nothing comes close to the handling prowess of the Mazda 3 in the compact segment, I'm not hallucinating, and I test drove both the Civic RS and the 2.0 R, and the Civic doesn't even come close when it comes to driver engagement(The CVT drone pull and drone sucks, the exhaust sound is mediocre compared to the Mazda 3, the quality of interior materials are a notch lower, and the steering/handling feel is cold). The only advantage that the Civic has are a few inches more of legroom and the 20hp or 1 sec faster to 100km/h. Add to that the 5 year Yojin package(Free PMS) that Mazda dealerships under ANC dealerships offer. The Civic's headlights despite the complicated design offers poor visibility at night compared to the excellent headlights of the Mazda 3. Do I need to add more? I would be happy to add more to this argument.

    7. LOL! The Civic has 10 airbags all in all, it has a curtain airbag in the C pillars separate from the side curtain in the A pillar. It has a side airbag for the rear passenger, making it 10 all in all. Same set up w/ the City VX+ Navi which is absent in your 2.0R. Mehehe!

And the Civic also has the that Dual Zone climate control, rear camera & dual exhaust (hidden). That Bose sound system is found in the speed variant, not in the 2.0R you're talking about. As with regards to the headlight, yeah i must agree it lacks visibility at night.

The Mazda may have a Yojin 3 program but after that, it will be a maintenance nightmare for owners. Heck, you can't even find spare parts in Banawe and if ever you find one, it's hella expensive. Add to that the expensive battery replacement that'll just offset the PMS savings. And oh, what about the complaints of owners regarding the shock absorbers that falters early in its life. And oh, you're talking about the sunroof right? Well, it adds to the high NVH based from reports in other countries. Maintenance headache as well in the long run once leaking sets in. LOL!

    8. In Sir Uly's Civic RS review, it only has 6 airbags. And I've never heard of the City nor any non-luxury car here that has 10 airbags, maybe you're the one who's hallucinating. Nope, the Civic has an automatic climate control but it's not a dual zone. The Speed variant is cheaper by 5k than the RS, well worth the money than the RS turbo. And the 2.0R's headlights are adaptive as compared to the Civic. I bet the Civic will have more problems after 5 years due to its turbo and Honda's spare parts are also expensive. There are already spare parts in Banawe(minor stuff), and Mazda is planning to build a warehouse here in less than 5 years time. The Amaron battery that is just 5900 works with the Istop system in the Mazda 3, though I wouldn't buy the expensive Panasonic battery from Japan. I haven't heard of any shock absorber complaints in the Mazda 3 Skyactiv club. Based from personal experience, it's very quiet inside except if you open the sunroof, the sunroof is a nice touch to the car, letting the beautiful throaty exhaust sound in. Maintenance headache? Modern cars are very reliable now, with proper maintenance and the Mazda 3 is made in Japan whereas the Civic RS is made in Thailand.

    9. The Civic doesn't have rear sensors and the Mazda 3 2.0 R hatch and the Speed's dual exhausts are clearly visible, the sedan's hidden though.

    10. I think the civic has a higher chance of getting you laid. Looks much more cooler and youthful than a mazda3.

    11. That's the problem, "in Sir Uly's Civic RS review", "i've never heard of any non luxury car w/ 10 airbags". You just rely on reviews but never saw it in person. There's a curtain airbag in the C PILLAR separate from the curtain airbag in the A PILLAR & a side airbag for the rear passenger seat separate from the side airbag for the front passenger seat. This airbag set up is shared by the Civic RS & City VX+ Navi, go to a Honda dealer & see for yourself. There's a dual zone climate control in the Civic RS, that was also stated in Uly's review.

The Amaron battery you're talking about, being not a deep cycle battery that are required in a istop equipped Mazda vehicle won't last 2- 3 yrs as compared to a Civic set up. That makes your battery change more expensive & more frequent than a Civic.

The Mazda 3 may have been made in Japan, it actually has a outstanding build quality but it still has many flaws. For once, the low roofline of the M3 will make you hit your head upon ingress & egress, dissappointingly similar to the 2 & 6. The Civic's NVH is better than the Mazda 3, as stated in reviews even in abroad.

The maintenance set up of the Civic will still be easier to solve than the M3 granted that it'll have problems after 5 yrs. But Mazda has a more complex set up neccessitating a more expensive maintenance like expensive sparkplugs, suspension system (that falters easily), batteries, spare parts that takes several months to arrive from Japan, etc... Heck even Mazda mechanics are having a difficult time fixing their cars.

    12. And also if i may add, Civic has a better mod potential than the Mazda 3. More stock/aftermarket parts in the market. That makes the Civic a better long term value car than the Mazda 3 which give you a headache once repairs starts to set in.

At the end of the day, people still won't flock to Mazda. We do not want a vehicle that has a tight interior space, has low roofline that'll give an occassional bukol in the head, a maintenance headache during/after the Yojin 3 program & a vehicle that has a poor resale value even if it's made in Japan.

For now, Civic > Mazda 3. Let the sales speak for itself.

    13. I've done a ton of research in Honda's website and the Civic RS and the City VX+ only has 6 airbags not 10. Those Honda salespeople are making a fool of you. It only has driver and passenger airbags(2), side airbags(2) and side curtain airbags(2) a total of 6 airbags based from Honda's website itself. Still, I'll verify it in the upcoming MIAS.

There's a flaw in Sir Uly's review and the Civic RS has dual zone climate control indeed. Yes, it's not a deep cycle battery and it will last around a year. How often does the Civic change its battery? I would like to know. And the fuel savings from the Istop system is significant in Metro Manila's heavy traffic.

A flaw that I will point out inside the Mazda 3 are the scratch prone gloss plastic inserts, and both the Mazda 3 and the Civic has low sloping roof lines mind you. Civic wins in NVH and legroom though. The Civic is more complicated than the Mazda 3 due to its turbo setup, and both Honda's and Mazda's spareparts are equally pricey but not as pricey as Subaru's. And the suspension doesn't falter easily, no complaints from the Mazda 3 skyactiv club. Spare parts are a current weakness but Mazda will have a parts and bodypaint warehouse in around 5 years from now.

Mazda 3 owners do not need to mod their vehicles, it's already perfect, unless you want to add some personal personality in your car. Headache? I don't think so, as long as you properly maintain a modern Japanese car, repairs are very minimal, only the replaceable parts(oil, filters, tires, etc) need to be replaced.

Yes, the Mazda 3 or any Mazda are not for everyone, only the ones who appreciate driving chooses Mazda. And its only weakness is a few inches of interior space whereas compared to the other brands, it is better equipped, better built, more fuel efficient, better material quality, best handling in the class, most dynamic to drive, etc. The reason for poor resale value is the brand loyalty of Filipinos to Toyota and Honda. The fortuner despite having the worst performance and equipment is the best selling SUV here and the Honda Civic and Toyota Altis despite being overpriced and under equipped, Filipinos still choose them. Heck even the outdated Isuzu Crosswind and Mitsubishi Adventure are still growing in sales. Being the best selling car doesn't mean that it is the best car. Look at the Vios, it is the best selling car despite the City, Accent diesel, and the Mazda 2 are better than it.

Most Filipinos are practical and that leaves those who are past practicality to choose the better stuff in life.

    14. First of all, i've told you over and over again that the Civic RS & City VX+ Navi has a curtain airbags in the C PILLAR & side airbags for rear passengers, aside from the dual front, front curtains & front side airbags. It may be a 6 stage set up but it's 10 pcs all in all due to the fact that they're separately positioned. You're the one whose being fooled since you just rely mostly in internet reviews. Heck, you don't even understand what is a C Pillar. LOL!

The Civic also has a fuel saving system, the ECON mode w/c is the counterpart of the istop. It can have a battery life of 2 yrs (Motollite) but can extend to 3-4 yrs if Amaron is used while your Mazda 3 has a battery life of 1 yr or less using Amaron, a huge disadvantage by that.

The Civic has a higher roof line that WON'T make people hit their head upon ingress & egress unlike the Mazda 2, 3 & 6 which is a big turn off for buyers. I just don't know about the CX3 if that's also the case.

The Mazda 3 2.0R you're talking about may have good equipments that are lacking in the Civic, but the Civic has far more valuable equipment that's absent in the Mazda 3. Those Blind Spot Warning, sunroof, adaptive headlight & rear parking sensors are nice to have but a 6 stage airbag (10 all in all), hill start assist, a less complicated ECON mode compared to istop, turbo & a very spacious interior is still a better option.

Maintenance? You will have to change your Amaron battery yearly. And when the time comes that your istop system bogs down, sparkplugs replacement, shock absorber replacement, belts, etc... You'll be shell shocked once you see your bills.

Mazda 3 may be drop dead gorgeous but it is indeed not for everyone. Not everyone wants to have problems w/ parts sourcing, expensive maintenance, low resale value & most importantly, a very tight interior space.

    15. Please, to cure your ignorance. Take a look at the curtain "airbag" logo located in the C PILLAR of the Civic RS & City VX+ Navi once you check it out. It's separate from the curtain "airbag" logo located in the A PILLAR.

There are 3 pillars in a car: A Pillar (front), B Pillar (middle) & C Pillar (rear).

I hope this profession you've chosen will enable you to buy a Civic for real and not just typing what is in the brochure.

Really Honda? Trolling in car websites? You've resorted to this? Hired this guy?
