Toyota Motor Philippines Brings in 2018 Land Cruiser Prado; Hikes Prices of Land Cruiser LC200 (w/ Specs)

After its launch at the Frankfurt International Motor Show last September, Toyota Motor Philippines has announced that the 2018 Land Cruiser Prado has arrived. Landing at Toyota showrooms nationwide, the new Land Cruiser Prado sees a tweaked design, higher-quality interior, and a carryover drivetrain.

Still based off the J150 which first launched in 2009, the 2018 Land Cruiser Prado gets new design elements which are designed to be aesthetically pleasing yet functional. The hood is made to slope, offering better downward visibility while kinking upward at the sides to help the driver judge corners better. The front and rear bumpers have been reshaped to offer a better approach and departure angle too. The LED headlights have also been restyled, incorporating LED daytime running lights. LED front fog lights complete the changes. At the back, the taillights have been tweaked as well.

Overall length has been increased by 60 millimeters, effectively raising the turning radius to 5.8 meters (from 5.7 meters), while ground clearance is now 5 millimeters lower at 215 millimeters.

Inside, the Land Cruiser Prado gets an upgraded cabin with new designs for the instrument binnacle and center console. The instrumentation is new, integrating a 4.2-inch TFT color display to serve as the multi-information display. The center console is also new, serving as home to a touchscreen display audio system with GPS, Bluetooth function, and 6 speakers.

Leather seats is standard issue with the front passengers getting power adjust. The driver gets 8-way movement, while the passenger gets movement in 4 directions. Both seats offer seat ventilation. The second-row folds in a 60/40 split, while the third-row folds (with power actuation) in a 50/50 split.

Surprisingly, the 2018 Land Cruiser Prado features carryover mechanicals for both its gasoline and diesel variants (it’s a move likely done to keep it qualified under the JPEPA, at least for the gasoline variant).

The gasoline-fed variant continues with the 1GR-FE engine. Equipped with Dual VVT-i technology, the 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine generates 275 horsepower and 381 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic with sequential shift.

Meanwhile, the diesel-fed variants soldier on with the 1KD-FTV. This 4-cylinder common rail direct injection diesel engine generates 163 horsepower and 410 Nm of torque. This is available with a 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic variant.

In terms of safety, the 2018 Land Cruiser gets 7 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control, A-TRAC traction control, HAC hill-start assist control (except for the M/T), and DAC downhill assist control (except for the M/T).

The 2018 Land Cruiser Prado carries the following Suggested Retail Price (SRP):
  • Prado 4.0L V6 – P 3,119,000
  • Prado 4.0L V6 (White Pearl) – P 3,134,000

  1. Its s a shame TMPI keeps bringing in Prado's with older less efficient engines espcially considering the price premium over Fortuner. They also did this with the J120's.

  2. Still the old 3.0 diesel. Is this euro 4? Considering specs and price of the 3.0, it is hard to justify this vs the fort 4x4. I'll choose the 4.0 v6 vs the explorer any given day.

  3. Prado diesel is not a good buy. Might as well go for the LC 200. If one can afford a 4m price tag, what's 500k more? Or buy the gasoline variant. The 900k difference should take away the diesel economic advantage over it.
