Geely Announces New Tesla-Rivaling Zeekr Brand

Despite having brands such as Volvo, Polestar, and Lynk & Co under its belt, Geely thinks it’s still not enough. The Chinese car manufacturer just announced the formation of a new company, Zeekr. It’ll be their premium all-electric vehicle brand that will set the stage to challenge the likes of Tesla.

Geely says the first Zeekr vehicles will be delivered by the third quarter of this year. After that, Zeekr will deliver a new EV to the market each year for the next five years.

Setting Zeekr apart is its new “ecosystem” which will promise a different approach when it comes to both sales and servicing.

Under the plan, Zeekr will use Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) used by vehicles such as the Lynk & Co Zero (pictured). It will include its own battery technologies, battery management systems, electric motor technologies, and electric vehicle supply chain support.

By utilizing SEA technologies, Zeekr vehicles will be able to offer software upgrades throughout the lifetime of every vehicle through Over the Air Upgrades (OTA) as well as offering what Geely calls an “unrivalled luxury vehicle experience in terms of comfort and performance.”

Jointly owned by the Geely Automobile Holdings and the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group with a 51 and 49 percent share respectively, Li Shufu will serve the chairman and An Conghui as the Chief Executive Officer.

The initial market strategy for Zeekr will be focused on the Chinese market, but will also explore export opportunities to satisfy global market demand for premium electric vehicles.
