MIAS 2022: MG Philippines Adds New MG 5 Core Plus Variant For P 683,888*

Aside from the newly-launched MG HS compact SUV, MG Philippines used the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) to showcase the latest variant of its MG 5 sub-compact sedan: the 2022 MG 5 Core Plus.

Already known for its large cabin and exterior dimensions, and feature-loaded package, MG Philippines is adding new features such as a 10-inch color display touchscreen equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and two additional speakers from the “regular” Core model. It also adds a reverse camera for a more convenient parking experience.

Mechanically, the MG 5 Core Plus shares the same powerplant as the other members of the MG 5 family. For that, it gets a 1.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine making 112 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque. The CVT gearbox gets the added convenience of cruise control. It also gets dual SRS airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes, and tire pressure monitoring.

The MG 5 Core Plus retails for P 748,888. It is, however, available at P 683,888 (net of a cash discount) or a low down payment of just P 63,000.

The MG 5 Core Plus comes with a 5-year / 100,000-kilometer warranty and one-year free periodic maintenance service. MG owners can also download the My MG mobile app which allows them to easily schedule vehicle servicing appointments from the convenience of their smartphones. They can also use the app to book a visit from MG Philippines’ Mobile Garage service caravan that provides MG owners with vehicle home service for major technical issues. MG HERO Services, on the other hand, provides 24/7 roadside support through the MG Philippines hotline (+632 5328 - 4664).

  1. I think this release is to counter that of the Geely Emgrand. Very aggressive pricing from MG (only slightly more expensive than several small hatchbacks).

    1. Emgrand also made the vios xe variant looked paltry when you compare its value in amenities.

  3. I just hope this variant still has access to the engineering mode, where owners can tweak the settings of the tranny that resolved it's laggy acceleration and made it's efficiency better. And that's done thru the oem infortainment, it seems this one's infotainment is different from the usual one's on the other variants.
