2023 Toyota Vios: This Is It

The all-new, fourth-generation Toyota Vios has finally made its global debut in Thailand. Known as the Yaris Ativ there, the latest Vios shifts to a brand-new platform, a sleeker style, and more technology.

The Vios now moves to the Daihatsu New Global Architecture or DNGA. Used also on the Toyota Raize, Avanza, and Veloz, it makes the 2023 Vios larger than the current model. It’s now 4,425 mm in length (up 5 mm), 1,740 mm in width (up 10 mm), and 1,480 mm tall (up 5 mm). Wheelbase has also stretched by 70 mm to 2,620 mm.

The all-new Vios gets a stylish aesthetic upgrade too with a fastback-like roofline and design cues reminiscent of the Camry and Corolla. The angular headlights now sport L-shaped DRLs, while the hood and front grille are more vertical now giving it a stronger on-road presence. Over to the side, the rear door opening is now longer, while at the back, a trim piece bridges the taillight clusters like in the Veloz.

Inside, there’s a tablet-style 9-inch infotainment screen surrounded what look to be soft-touch materials. Among the standard features of the decidedly driver-centric interior include the digital air conditioning controls, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and an ambient lighting system.

Aside from selectable ambient interior lighting, the all-new Vios also comes with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a PM2.5 filtration system, quilted leather seats, and smartphone mirroring through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

On higher variants, Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) comes as standard and includes systems such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, front vehicle departure alert, all-speed adaptive cruise control, pedal mis-operation control, and automatic high beam.

Keeping to Thailand’s eco car regulations, the Yaris Ativ uses a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 94 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This is then paired to a CVT gearbox that pushes its economy to 23.3 km/L. It also happens to meet Euro 5 emissions standards. For markets such as the Philippines, it is expected for the Vios to continue with the current 1.3- and 1.5-liter engines, although a hybrid variant will reportedly join the range (globally at least) by next year.

In Thailand, the Yaris Ativ comes in four variants: the first is the Sport at 539,000 baht (P 844,641), followed by the Smart at 584,000 baht (915,158), the Premium at 659,000 baht (P 1,032,687) and the range-topping Premium Luxury at 689,000 baht (P 1,079,699).

My dude, the Vios has to have the largest crowd of offending ricers. You do know that Toyota is from Japan, right?

    6. Take note city vios mirage is the econo line of the car company thats why it has smaller displacement if you want performance buy sti,86,mustang instead. Vios city mirage doesnt made to race but to be a fuel efficient car.

  2. i dont think this will not be adapted so soon by the toyota Sta Rosa plant, change of DNGA architecture had to be massive in process unless they started earlier, if they're looking to continue manufacture the prev gen, the sales will be stomp cos of the design changes on this new gen

    1. They'll likely start retooling that around October or November.

    2. if this one is now being manufactured by Daihatsu just like the LiteAce, definitely there will be a major adjustment at Sta. Rosa Plant

  3. Does this use the Avanza and Raize's D-CVT transmission or is the entire powertrain including the transmission a carryover from the previous model? Other outlets refer to the transmission as the Super CVT-i which is the current 7-speed CVT being used by the Vios. Also, will there be a GR Sport model soon or will we have to wait till the facelift arrives?

    1. Supposedly, it uses the Super CVT system, yes. There's a sportier variant (accessorized), but this isn't the GR Sport model yet. That will probably come later.

  11. for some reason the front reminds me more of the Avalon than the Corolla, kahit medyo far lol

The rear, is definitely Honda City like lol (at least the shape of the lights ganun)

  12. Mga private vios drivers, no choice kundi depensahan sasakyan nila, wala kasi silang choice, yun kasi binigay ng kumpanya nila. Malamang kung may pera sila pambili, di vios bibilhin nila kasi pan taxi lang haha. Aminin! Lol

  13. We'll never see those red leather covered dashboard & seats here, I'm pretty sure. Maybe black leatherette in the TOTL version at most.

    1. Yea I can see that. Many people could think red leather on a Vios G may be a bit too loud. Especially given that the Ativ is aimed at young 1st time car buyers over in Thailand vs here where the Vios is even aimed at families.

    2. This tiny thing is marketed as a family vehicle? Filipinos need to learn to be better consumers and demand more.

Damn, they sold this to people as a family vehicle, that's so sad.

  14. Interior similar to the Raize, except for the aircon vents. This could be lighter than the current Vios.

  15. I just wish that Toyota Motor Philippines release the 3NR-VE Dual VVT-iE. It's much more fuel efficient and pefect for our traffic conditions. If not i think the almera is a better buy when it comes the engines.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I hope the 1.0 turbo from the Raize will appear as an option in future models to compete with the Almera turbo

  17. Be ready for exciting news soon! Guess the Toyota haters will hate Toyota more as there are more to come!

    2. Bring it to Baguio and feel the power if it will be enough.

      Delete
    3. Anon 11:52pm? How can you say it's trash? Doesn't seem like a proper description of a car's engine, a proof that you are not qualified to give such comments. Huwag yung puro basura pinagttype natin. Mahirap talaga pag binigyan mo ng sobrang kalayaan ang mal edukado.

    4. Look at the size of the engine, its power and how the new vios grew in size. Formulate a conclusion. You don’t need to be a genius to understand how physics works right?

      Delete
    5. Sige genius, enlighten us with your physics. How did you formulate your conclusion? Show us your formula. Let's see if you know any better than Toyota.

    6. Smaller engine with weaker power + heavier weight = trash performance. Common sense.

  18. Smaller and smaller engines then they will just add turbo then later on hybrid power and electric motors.

    1. The thing is, I don’t see the vios using a turbo

  19. looks good in pictures but let's wait for the Toyota Indonesia factory if its at par with global Toyota quality. I have watched Raize & Avanza reviews with uneven product quality coming out of this factory.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's a Daihatsu so I doubt the "Toyota" quality people expect is in this.

REAL Toyota's are expensive, as evidenced by global models like the RAV4, the GR Yaris, the Camry, and of course, the new Crown.
