Everything Owners And Would-Be Owners Need To Know About The New Hyundai Distributor

After more than two decades, Hyundai has a new distributor for the Philippines. Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) is now the newly-appointed distributor for the Korean auto brand taking over from Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI). HARI though remains the exclusive distributor for Hyundai trucks and buses in the country.

Now a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Korea, HMPH brings with them an entirely new line-up of vehicles as well as a new way of thinking that aims to strengthen their presence in the local automotive industry. For both would-be and existing owners, we sat down with Mr. Cecil Capacete, the managing director of HMPH to talk about one thing: aftersales service. Here is everything you need to know:

What’s their launch line-up like?

HMPH has revealed the Creta, Tuscon, Santa Fe, and Staria as their launch line-up for the Philippines. For those looking for the full specs and variants, it’s been tackled before but for reference, here are the links:
What sort of warranties do these vehicles carry?

All vehicles sold through HMPH and its accredited dealers carry a 5-year / 200,000-kilometer warranty (excluding wear-and-tear items, but inclusive of paint). The audio and multimedia system gets a separate 3-year / 60,000-kilometer warranty, while corrosion protection is capped at 5 years or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. For batteries, they carry a 2-year / 40,000-kilometer warranty.

For public utility vehicles, however, such as taxis, rental, Transport Network Vehicle Service/TNVS (e.g., Grab) will be limited to 36 months or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Genuine Parts purchased from and installed by authorized HMPH dealers will be warranted for 12 months or 20,000Km, whichever comes first, from the installation date.

What’s the Preventive Maintenance Schedule (PMS) like?

They are instituting a revised PMS schedule which should prove to be beneficial for low-mileage drivers. For gasoline-fed vehicles, it is now every 7,500 kilometers or every 6 months (whichever comes first), while for diesel-fed vehicles, it is every 5,000 kilometers or every 6 months (whichever comes first). This means that Hyundai now joins the club of car brands that only require twice-a-year PMS (if you are a low mileage user) such as Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and Subaru.

I bought my Hyundai under the former distributor, what’s going to happen to my warranty? How about parts support?

Thankfully you’re not being abandoned. HMPH will honor the warranty of existing customers as long as their vehicles are still within the 5-year warranty period provided by the previous distributor.

And even at the expiry of the warranty period, Hyundai promises that parts support will continue.
These parts will remain available through authorized dealerships nationwide.

Will Hyundai Motor Philippines service gray market vehicles?

Yes, but with several guidelines. Please contact your nearest Hyundai dealership for more details.

What about recalls? Will Hyundai Motor Philippines be more proactive when it comes to these things?

Committed to maintain the vehicle’s highest quality throughout its life, Hyundai Philippines will now have a proactive approach done to reach out to customers not just through traditional means such as calls, SMS, emails, but through their new website as well.

How many dealerships does HMPH have? Any plans to add more?

Currently, Hyundai has 38 authorized dealerships nationwide with plans to grow it to 45 by the end of 2023.

Moreover, HMPH will launch Hyundai Live in September. This will enable two-way communication with customers using the website as an online showroom that provides information to meet customers’ needs.

    3. Where are the complaints? The only one complaining in the comment section about Ford is you. And you don't even own a Ford.

    6. None. It's just RG. But be prepared, I feel RG will come up with a scheme and comment as random anonymous pretending to be dissatisfied Ford owners so he can bolster his claim. That's just the kind of guy he is.

    1. Follow the prescribed PMS schedule as indicated in the warranty booklet for vehicles sold by the former distributor. As for vehicles out of warranty, we'll have to ask about this. Likely, you'll follow the revised PMS schedule suggested by HMPH.

    1. The only update we've received so far is that his servicing dealer, Hyundai QA contacted him. He reported what happened, but after that nothing.

  5. Good riddance. HARI was not a good distributor and just tarnished the brand in this country. Glad the new distributor is bringing in the newer versions and seems like they didn't cut too much out of them.

  6. Obviously this 5-yr warranty includes engine fires?
