Toyota Motor PH Drops More 2023 GR86 Features, Specs Hints (w/ Video)

Just in time for 8/6 day (it’s also the day that local orders books opened), Toyota Motor Philippines dropped more hints to the Philippine spec, second-generation GR86. As expected, the GR86 will come in both manual and automatic flavors, but with widely varying specs to cover what could be two different price points.

Standard across the GR86 are features such as LED headlights with headlamp washers, and high-gloss black side mirrors caps. They also share the same 2.4-liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder engine which should offer 235 horsepower (PS, if you’re strict) at 7,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 3,700 rpm. It also offers a standard Torsen-type limited slip differential.

The MT version, first previewed at the Toyota GR Festival 2022, is distinguished by its two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Primacy HP tires. Inside, it has fabric seats with a G-pattern, dual zone climate control, and an 8-inch infotainment system with 6 speakers.

For the AT variant though, Toyota Motor Philippines isn’t just swapping the gearbox and pedals, and calling it a day. Hinted at the teasers they have posted (embedded below), they’ve actually opted to offer the top-spec variant which adds features such as the samurai sword-inspired 18-inch black alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede/leather seats, and an automatic dimming rear view mirror.

Also, despite efforts to conceal it in their teasers, it will also rock a driver assist system that uses stereoscopic cameras developed by Subaru. Called EyeSight by Subaru, the system is also called EyeSight in Toyota’s home market and Toyota Star Safety System (SST) in the United States. In Europe, it’s not called by any moniker. Regardless of the label, it adds pre-collision mitigation, automatic high beam, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning to its mix of safety features.

Toyota Motor Philippines has yet to reveal the official pricing of the 2023 GR86, but given that the outgoing models cost P 2,086,000 for the MT and P 2,186,000 for the AT, it’s very likely that the MT variant will be priced at either P 2,286,000 or P 2,386,000. As for the AT, since its most direct rival (and sibling) is priced at P 2,619,000, it’s probable that Toyota will undercut that with a P 2,486,000 or P 2,586,000 price tag for the AT.

Like the GR Supra and the GR Yaris, the GR86 will only be sold through Toyota Motor Philippines’ roster of GR Performance certified dealerships. These are namely (in alphabetical order):
  • Toyota Alabang
  • Toyota Bacoor, Cavite
  • Toyota Batangas City
  • Toyota Calamba Laguna
  • Toyota Cebu
  • Toyota Commonwealth
  • Toyota Davao City
  • Toyota Global City
  • Toyota La Union
  • Toyota Lipa, Batangas
  • Toyota Mabolo Cebu
  • Toyota Makati
  • Toyota Manila Bay
  • Toyota Otis
  • Toyota Quezon Avenue
  • Toyota San Fernando, Pampanga
  • Toyota San Pablo, Laguna
  • Toyota Silang, Cavite
  • Toyota Tacloban, Leyte
The GR86 will most probably make its first public appearance at the upcoming round of the Vios Cup on August 20.

  2. I’d be wary since there is already a rod bearing failure in one of these cars.
