Omoda 5 EV Passes Two Crucial Safety Tests

Leading up to its market launch at the Manila International Auto Show, the Omoda 5 EV has successfully passed two crucial safety tests: water wading and underbody scraping.

The first, water wading, verifies that the Omoda 5 EV’s critical components, including the high-voltage battery, are properly sealed. During the test, it was driven through a pool with water levels covering the front grille. Due to water displacement, the water reached as high as three-quarters of the vehicle’s face. Despite this, the Omoda 5 EV navigated the immersion pool steadily. It successfully passed the test without any signs of water leakage or electrical faults, nor did it trigger any vehicle alarm.

Meanwhile, the underbody scraping test simulates “accidental” scenarios that may occur in real world conditions, particularly dealing with obstacles that protrude above the road surface. In this test, the Omoda 5 EV drove over a 210 mm high metal post. After scraping its lowest point, 30 mm above the obstacle, the underbody battery pack remained undamaged, and was proven effectively protected. This demonstrated that even after an underbody scraping incident, the vehicle’s structure could maintain its overall safety and stability.

For Omoda, safety has been a foundational principle and the performance of the Omoda 5 EV in both water wading and underbody scraping test is a testament to this. This assures would-be buyers of the EV, but also showcases how Omoda continues to elevate industry standards.

The Omoda 5 EV’s first public unveiling will be at this year’s Manila International Auto Show where it will be showcased alongside its internal combustion counterpart, the Omoda 5 Turbo, and the Jaecoo 7 at the SMX Convention Center.
