Mazda Is Taking The CX-60 Rally Racing

Mazda is taking its CX-60 racing with its first race being the 2025 Rally Hokkaido happening this September 5 to 7, 2025.

Run by TCP Magic—a motorsports specialty store headquartered in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo, Japan, the CX-60 will participate in the sixth round of the XCR Sprint Cup Hokkaido of Rally Hokkaido.

The rally car is based off the CX-60 3.3 HEV Turbo-D which features a 3.3-liter inline-6 producing at least 254 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. This is mated to an 8-speed multi-clutch automatic sending power to a rear-biased i-Activ AWD system. It will use Toyo Tires Open Country R/Ts for the race.

For the XCR Sprint Cup, the TCP Magic Mazda CX-60 will be piloted by two Mazda development drivers with Kazuhiro Terakawa serving as driver and Miyoko Ishikawa as co-driver.

Although Mazda is aiming for top results, the main objective is to further hone the CX-60 through competition, especially given the harsh driving environment of a rally-type race. The carmaker aims to feed that knowledge back to its mass-produced vehicles.

  2. Put that 3.3 inline 6 engine in the next gen MX-5 or into a next gen Mazda 2 or 3. Come on.
