Toyota Yaris Cross Receives 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Rating

The Yaris Cross joins the ranks of Toyota vehicles that have scored a perfect 5-star safety rating bestowed by the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program or ASEAN NCAP.

The Yaris Cross scored 36.6 out of 40 in Adult Occupancy Protection, 17.32 out of 20 in Child Occupant Protection, 16.89 out of 20 in Safety Assist Technologies, and 12.21 out of 20 in Motorcyclist Safety enough for an overall score of 83.02 out of 100.

During its ASEAN NCAP test, the Yaris Cross performed excellently with its side-impact test receiving the highest, “Good” level of safety all around.

In its front impact test, meanwhile, data showed there was “Adequate” protection to both front occupants’ chest. The driver’s right lower leg, on the other hand, received “Marginal” protection. Otherwise, it received “Good” levels of protection elsewhere.

When it comes to Safety Assist Technologies, the Yaris Cross’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) functioned according to ASEAN NCAP requirements. This means it worked effectively at both city speeds (car-to-car rear stationary) and at inter-urban (car-to-car rear moving) scenarios. The same can be said with Motorcyclist Safety wherein the blind spot indicators functioned according to regulatory requirements.

  1. A huge slap to the hater here that often mocks rebadged Daihatsu models, glad this received a 5-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP despite having a DNGA platform.

    1. Since Daihatsu admitted to falsifying crash tests even if they apologized, it's expected that there's still skepticism on DNGA vehicles "passing" the ASEAN NCAP crash test with 5-stars, but fails in either real world road crash or other NCAP crash tests.
