Kia Reveals Most Affordable EV Yet, The EV2

Kia has revealed its sixth battery electric vehicle and it’s the most affordable one yet. The Kia EV2 was unwrapped in Europe where it’ll go on sale first, going against entry-level EVs from China as well as from Renault and Volkswagen.

Still underpinned by the E-GMP platform, the EV2 measures in at just 4,060 mm in length (1,800 mm in width and 1,575 mm in height). Its 2,565 mm wheelbase though means it has class-above interior space. Its styling stays close to the EV2 Concept with its upright stance, strong shoulder line, and pronounced wheel arches. Wheel size is either 16-inchers (205/65R16) or 18-inchers (215/50R18).

A sporty EV2 GT-Line has exclusive front and rear bumpers, body-color garnishes, side sill details, and wheels. It receives low-profile 225/45R19 wheels and tires.

The EV2 runs on a 400-volt architecture. The EV2 Standard Range with its 42.2-kWh battery produces 145 horsepower enabling a 0 to 100 km/h spring of 8.6 seconds. The EV2 Long Range (61-kWh), curiously, loses 10 horsepower (135 horsepower) and as a result, increases its century sprint to 9.5 seconds. The EV2 Long Range, however, goes up to 448 kilometers versus 317 kilometers in the EV2 Standard Range. Both are electronically limited to 159 km/h.

Inside, the “picnic box” concept of the EV2 results in a cozy, personal space. It has a wraparound crash pad with Kia’s signature panoramic wide display with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 5-inch climate panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Ambient lighting, fabric rich materials, and physical controls all boost tactile comfort and warmth.

Thoughtful storage solutions, including a flexible lower console, wireless charging tray, adjustable cup holders and separated door armrest architecture, demonstrate efficient use of space without compromise. In terms of cargo space, the 5-seater version has 362 liters of cargo space, while the 4-seater increases that to 403 liters thanks to sliding and reclining seats. Regardless of the seating, there’s also a sizeable front trunk.

Key features of the EV2 include a Harman Kardon premium audio system, a 100-watt USB Type C charging, bi-directional Vehicle-to-Load, and Over The Air updates for its ccNC Lite system. It also supports Pet Mode to keep family pets comfortable and safe when the vehicle is parked.

Production of the EV2 will begin in the first quarter of 2026 in Europe with the standard-range model, followed by long-range and GT Line variants throughout the year. Pricing will start at less than 30,000 Euros (P 2-million).
