Throughout the decades, Honda is known commonly for its driver-centric character and central to that tenet is a slick manual gearbox. Well, here’s some sad news for all you Honda fans and enthusiasts out there to greet 2026: Honda Cars Philippines has phased out it throughout its local line-up.
While a stick shift and three pedals was a common sight in Honda Cars Philippines’ line-up (it was offered as the standard gearbox on plenty of models including the Accord and CR-V), this month, the last holdout, the BR-V 1.5 S MT has finally been axed.
The BR-V 1.5 S MT’s demise this February follows the likes the Brio which saw the entry level S MT discontinued in 2022 and then the City sedan in 2023.
Now, eagle-eyed readers will notice that the Civic Type R is still listed on the Honda Cars Philippines website, but we understand that with all remaining stocks spoken for, its presence on the official pricelist is a mere placeholder under the brand’s new halo model, the Prelude e:HEV, arrives in the coming months.
Aside from having no manual gearbox present anymore in Honda’s local line-up, several variants have been culled as well in a bid to simplify the line-up. For instance, the Brio range has been cut down to just two from four, with the discontinuation of the Brio S CVT and the Brio RS CVT (non-Black Top). The same goes for the City which removes the entry-level City E CVT.

Over reliance too much on CVT and Hybrid
Manuals don't sell these days. Gone are the days where manuals have the edge in fuel economy, which was the main reason for their popularity over automatics.

DeleteCoz newer honda potential buyers doesn't know how to drive a manual? Lol kidding aside, probably honda fans are fast switching to matics that slows down the sales of base model mt. Factor also but just maybe that mt models lack a lot of standard features that holds back the buyer of getting one except for the civic type r of course.
