Nissan Philippines Gets Nod For X-Trail e-POWER Local Sale

Nissan Philippines is readying their return into the compact SUV space with the X-Trail. And yes, this time it’ll come with an electrified powertrain as standard.

Appearing in the Department of Energy’s approved Hybrid Electric Vehicles list, the Philippine market X-Trail is set to bow in solely with a front-wheel drive powertrain. Confirmed via its homologation documents, the X-Trail will offer 204 horsepower (150 kW) courtesy of its BM46 electric motor. Although torque isn’t mentioned, this points to a healthy and instant 330 Nm.

Like the Kicks e-Power, the X-Trail doesn’t have a plug, but rather uses an onboard gasoline generator to supply power that it either stores in its 1.75 kWh lithium-ion battery or send its directly to the BM46 motor. While not connected to the drive wheels in anyway, its DOE certification says the generator will have 106 kW (144 horsepower). This points to the 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder that uses Nissan’s innovative Variable Compression (VC) Turbo.

Although the paperwork is silent on features, the 5-seater X-Trail e-Power could get LED exterior lighting, panoramic sunroof, 20-inch alloy wheels, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 12.3-inch center touchscreen, 10.8-inch heads-up display, Bose sound system, and quilted Nappa leather seats.

With Nissan confirming the Kicks e-Power’s arrival in June, the X-Trail e-Power could very well join it alongside the Frontier Pro and a yet-to-be-named BEV which is likely the Ariya.

  1. It just should. The X-Trail(Rogue) used to compete well with the likes of Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Forester. But it’s been gone for awhile….

  3. Sir Uly is Toyota HEV 6th gen system mechanically less complicated and much easier to maintain than Nissan E power? I’ve also heard that Corolla cross HEV is more fuel efficient than Nissan E kick, is it true?

    1. In our experience, yes, the Corolla Cross and Yaris Cross both proved to be more efficient than the Kicks e-Power.

      Kicks e-Power: 16.19 km/L

  4. The Kicks is efficient in city driving only but is worse in highway. The toyota cross is efficient in both.

  5. I've been hearing news regarding the Kicks that it's not that reliable. When launched initially, it was very famous. But now, there are only a handful driving the Kicks. Meanwhile, Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross are almost everywhere.

  6. The 3 cylinder VC turbo engine has issues and have faced various issues with regulators in Canada and US. Nissan PH should go for 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine instead. Hope this helps.

    2. I'm sure the article is incorrect to say it's the VCT engine, which makes a lot more power. There's an even newer 1.5 turbo, this time with no VCT but with less power and greater reliability. This is likely to be the engine, as the US equivalent, the Rogue, is headed for its hybrid version. This newer 1.5 turbo without the VCT is already being used in the new Qashqai epower in Europe.

    3. Let us hope so. So far though the X-Trail uses the KR15DDT which is the 144 PS, 250 Nm 1.5-liter VC Turbo 3-cylinder.

  7. This is a 2021 model. Kawawa talaga mga Pinoy, kung kelan malapit na end of the line ng product model saka lang dadalhin dito sa Pinas 😅

  8. Front wheel drive-only powertrain looks like they will position below the RAV4. Still, I'd be interested to hear how NVH is managed, given the generator is a three-cylinder ICE.
