The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Just Made "Land Cruiser" Accessible To The Masses. Prices Start At P 2.235M (w/ Specs)

Toyota Motor Philippines has revealed the much-awaited Land Cruiser FJ: the smallest, most affordable member of the Land Cruiser family yet.

Bringing together the Land Cruiser’s 4x4 heritage in a more accessible and compact package, the Land Cruiser FJ gives customers a new way to enjoy the Land Cruiser legacy in both the city and the trail.

Design-wise, the Land Cruiser FJ fuses traditional Land Cruiser cues such as a strong sense of mass through its boxy body with chamfered edges. Function follows form with the front and rear corner bumpers designed to be removable in segments, allowing ease of repair. It even features an old-school style side swinging tailgate and a tailgate-mounted spare tire.

For the Philippine market, it’s offered in two grades, the TX and the VX. Exterior-wise, they’re distinguished by the wheels (18-inch alloys on the VX, 17-inch steelies on the TX), and the absence of roof rails and a sidestep board on the TX.

Regardless of variant the Land Cruiser FJ utilizes the tried-and-tested IMV platform—the same one used by the Fortuner and Hilux. However, the suspension has been re-engineered to make it “worthy of a Land Cruiser.” This is done via additional underfloor bracing, improved higher body rigidity, and increased wheel articulation.

Powering the Land Cruiser FJ the 2TR-FE 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed Super ECT transmission with a part-time four-wheel drive system. Standard on both variants is a auto limited slip differential and rear differential locks.

Inside, the Land Cruiser FJ has a square cabin with a horizontal layout making the controls easy to understand. The low-set cowl and instrument panel also helps improve visibility, especially when tackling trails and off-road terrain.

Standard on both trims is a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats, and Active Traction Control System (A-TRAC). However, the VX has been upgraded with a leather steering wheel and shift knob, a larger 12.3-inch display audio system, an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a 360-degree camera, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.

The Land Cruiser FJ comes in five shades across both the TX and VX variants: Smoky Blue, Oxide Bronze Mica, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Ash, and Attitude Black Mica.

Pricing starts at P 2,235,000 for the Land Cruiser FJ TX and tops out at P 2,575,000 for the Land Cruiser FJ VX. This is inclusive of a 5-year or 140,000-kilometer warranty.

  1. With that kind of engine & the absence of some features, it's overpriced and underspec'd. LMAO

  2. Ocerpriced by 400K

  3. Its expensive because they know Toyota fans will still buy it lol.

The only good purchase right now in their lineup is the Rav4. Those below are just rebadged Daihatsu.

    1. Not quite. Corolla Cross uses the global platform TNGA

    2. Correct.. hype na naman si toyota ph sa lc fj. Overprice using old engine. After a year. Daming promo nito kapag nilangaw kagaya ng tamaraw.

  4. the width by height proportion and measurement is a sure recipe for the car to overturn. not good.

  5. This will definitely succeed the Fortuner as the car for road ragers.

  6. The best pang porma and owner will always be proud and can brag that its a LC

  7. nakakaiyak ang power output huhuhuhu

  8. So they just used the Hilux platform? So it's not a real Land Cruiser.

  9. The 2TR FE engine of this car is 23 years old already. Toyota should retire it and design something new and better for their loyal customers. But no. This car is over priced and over hyped and the car's proportions are awful.

  10. this is an lc if toyota says so. a moonswatch is an omega and a luce is a ferrari.

  11. the engine was upgraded thru 23 years. its a battle tested engine, indestructible they say 🦾

    1. Nothing was upgraded to this engine for 23 years. The only upgrade toyota made is the addition of exhaust side valve timing. Its the same old banana.

    2. Same very good old banana that last a lifetime. Power and torque more than enough for its size and weight. A dependable, reliable, affordable, prestigious beautiful real 4x4. Owners will have heads high and very proud.

    3. I own a prado 2005 with the exact same engine 2TR FE. the fuel consumption never improves at 6.75km/li in mixed driving. Thats what you get for a 23 year old engine. reliable maybe. Fuel consumption - it drinks. I eventually sold it in 2010. You dont want a car that lasts a lifetime but drinks gas like crazy. Newer engines are way lot better in economy and performance. Lets wait for toyota to commission yamaha to design a better engine.

    4. But higher prices LC300, Prado and Nissan patrol selling well despite averaging more or less 5km/L, it only shows that LC FJ will also sell well. Fuel consumption is just one of many factors in buying cars. But definitely its not for you who’s primary concern for buying a car is fuel consumption.

    1. HOW MUCH IS A PRADO OR LC300? AND THEN COMPARE THE LC FJ TO A FORTUNER? IS THE FORTUNER A CAR FOR THE MASSES? OH YES BASED ON NUMBERS. AND PLEASE, DON'T COMMENT IN ALL CAPS.

    2. Cheap plastics, made in Thailand, IMV-0 platform. Not sure if this is a true Land Cruiser.

    3. The Land Cruiser FJ is fundamentally closer to the classic FJ/BJ40 and 70-series because it rejects the luxury bloat present in the modern Land Cruiser and Prado. It’s a pure, no-frills, dedicated 4WD tool. Toyota explicitly stated that the LC FJ matches the heavy-duty LC70 in terms of wheel articulation, which makes it a true off roader. The 40 series and 70 series were hardworking honest 4WDs. IMV platform or not, as long as it delivers on its off-road and reliability promise, I’d argue that the new Land Cruiser FJ is the first proper successor we’ve seen to the hardworking Land Cruiser lineage (the 40 and 70 series) and definitely worthy of the Land Cruiser name.

  13. I think this target the 50yo below crowd and Fortuner for the 50yo plus Exec more Formal

  14. Budget is 2.5M but dont need a 4x4 vehicle. This one seems good, but will still wait for the refreshed Fortuner before upgrading, as the decade old trusty Innova still kick a*s.

    1. If you don't need 4x4, do not consider the FJ. It is meant to be an off-roader, not a mall crawler.

    2. "...don't need a 4x4 vehicle..."

Proceeds to shortlist a dedicated 4x4 off roader anyway. Seriously, if you don't need a 4x4, you are wasting your money on the FJ. It makes so many compromises (plasticky interior, gutless and thirsty but supremely reliable engine, poor comfort, poor space, subpar highway stability and a lot more) to be an excellent 4x4 off roader. Buying one but not using it for its 4x4 capabilities would be the equivalent of wearing steel-toed heavy construction boots to an office desk job. The off-roading and overlanding community doesn't need more posers like you.

    3. Many owners of 4x4 of so many car brands don’t really go into off roads, they just roaming the cities. Maybe they just like the porma of the car or the high ground clearance and added features of the top of the line 4x4

    4. I am one of them.

  15. Is no one else disappointed at Toyota for the fact that this has no rear aircon vents? For a car this expensive? 😩

  17. It feels cheap. Many cheap plastics inside.

  19. I call it just the Toyota Fun & Joy

  20. Is it just me or this LC FJ is just a glorified toyota tamaraw slapped with a 4WD..? The RAV4 is a better buy to say the least.

    1. Uhh.. RAV4 and LC FJ are totally different vehicles for completely different purposes. Why on earth are people comparing one to the other??

  21. I think this new FJ slots right in the "working" Land Cruiser lineup:

    • Luxury Land Cruiser - 80, 100, 200, 300
    • Lite Land Cruiser (Prado) - 70(Prado), 90, 120, 150, 250
    • Working Land Cruiser - 40, 55, 70, and this 240

  22. Whats important is fanboys of landcruisers has now 3 choices to choose from according to their preferences and budget. They have now the freedom to buy and enjoy an affordable LC that has the mechanical of real 4x4. Those who have more money can choose a higher version

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd buy that kaso hindi naman 2.5M yan eh. pag inquire mo sa ahente, biglang kasama na ang mga accessories na di mo kelangan, dapat toyota ang insurance at financing, etc... lampas 3M ang gagastusin mo.

  25. Does it have black headliner for both trims?
I always thought black headliner is a much classier look over gray.
