Ford Announces US-Bound Ranger, Bronco; What Does This Mean for Our Ranger and Everest?

Twelve years after Ford teased the return of the Bronco (some of the accompany photos in this story is a design concept done way back in 2004), they have finally confirmed the rumors: it’s coming back to American showrooms in 2020. In the same breath, they’ve also announced the return of their mid-sized pickup truck on American soil: the Ranger. That one is arriving stateside in 2019. While it’s hard to fully understand why Americans are having their panties in a twist over the Bronco and Ranger, what’s more important is what this means for the global Ranger and Everest.

Review: 2023 Ford Everest 2.0 Turbo Sport 4x2

When carmakers lend out vehicles, often, it’s the top-of-the-line trim. This is their way of putting their best foot forward. Occasionally, however, they’d do something different. Spurred by various reasons—the two ones I could think of being the way the segment’s shaped (mid- and entry-level models, after all, typically make up a chunk of sales); or perhaps, they know they’ve got a new story to tell, they let us have a go at something other than the most expensive variant. After some seat time with the Ford Everest Sport, I could say that this is the best bang-for-the-buck variant in the line-up, and as an added bonus, it’s the best driving Everest variant too.

Review: 2017 Ford Everest Titanium+ 3.2 4WD

They say, you’re not supposed to meet your heroes. There’s a danger that once you see them up close, they won’t seem as perfect eye-to-eye as opposed to being perched on their towering pedestal. That’s the dilemma with the Ford Everest. After a drive in Thailand, I’ve yet to try it on Manila roads. In the two years that passed, fate played itself cruelly as cancellations, re-schedules, and even a minor hiccup meant no seat time. As 2017 rolled in, so did a minor refresh. This is the Everest featured here. While its blemishes don’t make it so god-like anymore, from where I stand, it still remains the mid-sized SUV’s hero car.

From a no-frills, humble 7-seater with go-anywhere ability, they’re now regarded as a status symbol—one that combines any terrain capability with a long list of comfort and convenience features. Among all the nameplates out there, only one has continued to ride the wave, and that’s the Ford Everest.
