The 2021 Hyundai Bayon is a Europe-Only SUV

Hyundai is continuing its product diversification with its seventh new model in just 12 months. The Hyundai Bayon is their new B-segment SUV destined for Europe, slotting below the Kona and going against the likes of the Kia Stonic and Volkswagen T-Cross.

Sized similarly to the Venue, the Bayon takes on the latest Hyundai design language down to the three-part main lights and wide grille. The wedge-shaped appearance is highlighted by an arrow-shaped C-pillar, complemented by arrow-shaped taillights at the back. Wheel sizes range from 15 to 17 inches.

At 4,180 mm long, 1,775 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall (or 1,500 mm with 17-inch wheels), its dimensions strike a perfect balance between compactness and convenience. It features a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. Ground clearance is at a generous 183 mm.

Inside, the Bayon is all about maximizing available interior space for comfort. The driver has a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, while an 8 or 10.25-inch infotainment display with touchscreen controls dominate the center area. Key features include wireless charging and a Bose sound system.

Excellent legroom will also ensure passengers experience a comfortable ride, whether they’re sitting in the front seats or in the rear. Front passengers can enjoy 1,072 mm of leg room, while rear passengers have 882 mm.

Since the Bayon is destined only for the European market, it is powered by the latest generation Kappa engine family engineered for improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. Fitted with direct injection, the 1.0-liter T-GDi (with a 48-volt mild hybrid system) delivers 100 or 120 horsepower mated to either a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed dual clutch. In its iMT form, the Bayon features rev-matching, the first Hyundai SUV to do so.

With global markets, including the Philippines already being served by the Venue, it’s highly unlikely that the Bayon will be introduced here. That said, expect some of its key features, including its design to make its way to the refreshed Venue which should come in a couple of years time.
