The 2022 C40 Recharge is Volvo's First Dedicated All-Electric Vehicle

After committing to an all-new electric future, Volvo Cars unveils its first-ever dedicated all-electric vehicle: the C40 Recharge.

Riding on the CMA platform, the C40 Recharge does not have any internal combustion engine counterpart. It features a striking rear-end design with a lower roofline, along with a new face that’ll serve as the template for all electric Volvos to follow. This includes headlights with pixel technology.

The C40 Recharge features a high seating position, and will be available in a range of colors and decorative options unique to it. This includes a completely leather-free option—the first Volvo model to do so.

Inside, it features an infotainment system jointly-developed with Google and running on the Android operating system. This provides drivers with access to Google apps and services from the get go such as Google Maps.

Powering the C40 Recharge are twin electric motors—one in the front, and one at the rear with a combined output of 408 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is done in just 4.9 seconds. Power is stored in a 78-kWh battery that can be fast-charged from flat to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. Moreover, it offers a range of 420 kilometers, and can be further improved thanks to OTA or Over-The-Air updates.

The C40 Recharge will go in production later in the year, and will be built alongside the XC40 Recharge in Ghent, Belgium.

Following the introduction of the XC40 Recharge and now the C40 Recharge, Volvo Cars will roll out several additional electric models in the coming years.
