Toyota's All-New Small Car Will be Car of the Year Material

Toyota says they remain committed to launching small, affordable new cars. This comes as the automaker confirmed that a third model, underpinned by the GA-B platform will be produced.

Currently underpinning the Yaris and Yaris Cross, the smallest of Toyota’s TNGA platforms will spawn the replacement of the current Aygo (pictured)—an A-segment hatchback currently produced alongside the Peugeot 108 for the European market.

With the help of the GA-B platform, the all-new Aygo is expected to retain hallmarks such as dynamic styling, great packaging, and excellent driving dynamics—traits that helped Toyota win the 2021 European Car of the Year with the Yaris.

Together with the all-new model, Toyota is expected to shift over 500,000 TNGA GA-B-based products in Europe—a key number that will enable Toyota to deliver the economies of scale necessary to make their products accessible price-wise.

Currently, it’s unknown whether Toyota will adopt the GA-B platform for other markets such as Southeast Asia, where the segment is served by the Daihatsu-based Wigo / Agya.

It’s more likely that the all-new Wigo will instead ride on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture or DNGA platform which underpins the Toyota Raize, and supposedly the all-new Avanza, while the all-new Vios will be better served by the GA-B platform.
