Geely Coolray Gets Another Facelift, New Engine For 2022

Less than a year after Geely unveiled a refresh of its Coolray compact crossover in China, they’re giving it yet another nip and tuck, only this time there’s a lot more happening.

As a refresher, Geely gave the Coolray its new corporate face last July. For 2022 though they’ve opted to add more than just a new bumper. Uncovered in government filings, the 2022 Coolray now gets sharper, slimmer headlights and a new hood with vents. There are also numerous red pinstripe accents too.

At the back, the Coolray’s been changed with a sharper new look with angular LED taillights joined in the middle by a full-width light bar. The tailgate’s also been changed with the number plate changing positions, while Geely’s made sure to make the rear spoiler look more aggressive while accentuating the rear diffuser and quad tailpipes.

If those changes aren’t big enough for you, the Coolray is also bound to get a power boost too courtesy of a brand-new engine. Replacing the current turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine is a new turbocharged 4-cylinder. Codenamed BHE15-EFZ, this engine bumps up the output to 181 horsepower from 178 horsepower. No word on the gearbox, but it’s likely to be the current model’s 7-speed wet-type dual clutch.

Already a powerful and potent crossover, if Geely does decide to bring over this refreshed Coolray into the country, it will certainly be game over for the competition in the horsepower wars.

    1. Well maybe, just maybe, because the new engine is solely developed by Geely, unlike the previous which was co-developed with Volvo.. So business reasons I guess..
I'd rather have the previous engine..

  2. I like the front end, it looks expensive and very Lexus-inspired. The rear, however, looks tacky

    1. Same. The current Coolray is already OTT, and this one took things to the next level.

  5. Like the upgrade. Its elegant and yet sporty. However, im thinking of gas consumption when engine goes up

  6. The front looks like a fusion of Lexus and Mitsubishi. I think the current model lineup in the Philippines appeals better, aesthetically speaking.

The engine change is a different story though. If Geely Ph can somehow retain the same pricing schemes as the current line, this will be another /gg competition release.

  10. I like how this looks to be inspired by Lexus. For sure those young at heart will enjoy its styling.
Hopefully this iteration will have both wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

    1. We'll get it for sure. The refresh just came out last year, so safe to assume we'll be getting the new Coolray towards the end of this year?
