2022 Toyota Veloz Is For Filipino Families Seeking Extraordinary Adventures. Prices Start At P 1.185M (w/ Specs)

Whether you’re Team SUV or Team MPV, Toyota Motor Philippines thinks that the all-new 2022 Veloz is the ideal 7-seater for families seeking extraordinary adventures.

Now spun off as a separate model from the Avanza, the Veloz is Toyota’s response to the fast-growing 7-seater sub-compact SUV/MPV segment (its direct rivals would be the Honda BR-V and the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross). While it does share the same basic sheet metal, interior, and even running gear as the Avanza MPV, the Veloz gets unique elements inside and out to help it stand apart.

Outside, the 2022 Veloz has a different front fascia design. Inspired by Toyota’s line of “Cross” vehicles (the Corolla Cross and RAV4 in particular), it has a prominent hexagonal grille with Y-shaped inserts. It also has a more aggressive bumper design with the front fog lamps given more prominence thanks to chrome blade accents. The LED headlights may be shared with the Avanza, but here it gets sequential turn signal indicators.

Over to the side, the Veloz gets two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 205/50R17 tires. This increases its ground clearance to 205 mm—10 mm up compared to the Avanza. Complementing the ample ground clearance are some decidedly strong SUV styling cues such as the flush-type roof rails. It also gets black over fenders—a feature unique to the Philippine market.

At the back, the Veloz is differentiated by its full-width LED taillights giving it a unique aesthetic, especially at night. Toyota Motor Philippines is offering two grades for the Veloz—the 1.5 G and 1.5 V, but since the differences between these two variants are minimal, there’s no dedicated variant badge at the back.

Inside, it’s much clearer that the Veloz is pretty much based off the Avanza. That said, it does get a unique two-tone treatment as well as a soft-padded insert on the dashboard complete with a Veloz emblem and ambient lighting. The tilt/telescopic three-spoke steering wheel is covered in leather, while the seats are covered in a leather/suede-like combination.

The driver gets a 7-inch TFT color LCD screen and a digital speedometer combined a single cluster for a cutting-edge feel. Smart keyless entry with a push-button start is standard as is a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (8-inch in the 1.5 G and 9-inch in the 1.5 V). The screen also serves as the display for the Veloz’s standard rear camera (360-degree on the 1.5 V). A wireless device charger helps keep compatible smartphones juiced up with no need for cables.

Powering the Veloz is Toyota’s 1.5-liter 2NR-FE engine. Here, it generates 106 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It’s mated exclusively to a D-CVT. Similar to its application in the Raize and Avanza, this system adds split gears to existing CVT belt drives for improved efficiency and response. The Veloz also gets added stopping power courtesy of its four-wheel disc brakes, while an electronic parking brake with auto hold helps make stop-and-go traffic less of a hassle.

Both the Veloz 1.5 G and 1.5 V carry the same equipment level down to safety with its 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and stability control. The 1.5 V differentiates itself with its standard Toyota Safety Sense system. Here, it adds automatic high beam assist, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and lane departure warning. The higher variant also gets blind spot monitors with rear cross traffic alert.

The 2022 Toyota Veloz starts at P 1,185,000 for the 1.5 G, while the 1.5 V is priced at P 1,225,000. For both variants, the Platinum White Pearl Mica commands a P 15,000 premium. The three other colors are Purplish Silver Mica Metallic, Black Metallic, and Dark Red Mica Metallic.

  1. Oh my, it ticks almost all the needs of an average Filipino family. Cheap, feature rich, active safety, good ground clearance, 6 airbags, leather seats, three rows and its a Toyota(kinda)! The engine sucks though. Can that tiny thing go uphill or on steep parking?

    1. It can with its new dual cvt transmission. But for me personally ill go for the peppy raize turbo.

    2. I think the raize's proportions also look nice. Lots of daihatsu cars coming in. If the upcoming vios is DNGA then whats gonna happen with Toyota PH plant?

    3. No news of Toyota PH upgrading or retrofitting that plant for Daihatsu-NGA vehicles. If it's true that Toyota Vios and Innova will switch to that car architecture, then it might spell the end of Toyota local assembly/manufacturing here in our country. Toyota will just import all their cars instead.

    4. I hope they will retool the SRL plant for the sake of workers...

  2. Too much threat from the chinese brands. Toyota now upped their game from their underspecced overpriced tactics. Added more features with a sensible price. Too late the hero?

    1. Never too late though. Toyota will always be Toyota for Filipinos, for the brand name alone it'll always sell.

  4. Should Honda Ph have released the BRV instead of the HRV at this time?

  5. Goodbye Xpander. Dead on Arrival.

    1. The clear differentiator now is whether the customer wants Toyota Safety Sense vs Cruise Control haha

    2. Ang unang tinitignan ng karamihan ay un brand. Kahit kulang at mahal basta may T ay yun na dahil maganda raw ang suporta sa serbisyo at pyesa pati benta pag papalitan na.

  6. Not feeling that flat, slab-sided profile look. It still looks like an MPV, even with that 10mm height increase from the Avanza it still looks too low for some reason. Compare that with the side profile of the upcoming BR-V, that looks like a proper subcompact CUV. Also, RIP matagtag Rush.

  7. This looks like a proper launch package from the get-go and hopefully signals a new way of doing things at Toyota. Disc brakes all around, auto-hold parking brake and cross-traffic alert are some features we could criticize truck-based SUVs for not having, at the higher price points they are selling. Seriously, Mitsubishi needs to upgrade the Xpander’s transmission (among other things) to compete here. They were caught flat footed thinking the four-speed was good enough for the 2022 refresh and didn’t need changing.

  8. this is nice, i just notice a trend that "real"/global toyota models (corolla, corolla cros, camry and rav4) are either overpriced or underspeced or a combination of both while daihatsu models with toyota badges slapped on (veloz and raize) look like segment winners

  9. Daihatsus badged as Toyotas is just deception. If the Veloz was sold as Daihatsu, the price might be 10% cheaper!

    ReplyDelete

    1. To be fair, i think h not deception as Daihatsu is wholly owned by toyota n DNGA is being used by both toyota n daihatsu cars in japan. DNGA raize is being sold in japan since 2019

    2. Some people can see foolery even when veiled in sweet eye-candies, while most eyes get drowned in the high beams of the T-badge.

    3. Hmmmnn...T badge sold 10m vehicles each year

      Delete
  10. Yeah coz only some see it, while most dont.

  11. It is an admission from the T badge that third world countries aka emerging economies can have the short end of the stick by just giving us regionalized platforms. Buti pa Korean & China cars global model. Mas maganda pa sana global models ng Hyundai at Kia because for sure they were tested in different conditions and sold in AU, Europe, US, Africa, Middle East... e yung Raize at Avanza.... binebenta ba yan sa Australia kung saan extremes ang weather? Sa Europe at US na may snow? Sa Africa na dry & mainit? Sa Middle East na extreme weather din?

    1. Regionalization to meet different market needs. Business 101, H a good strategy datz why T badge sold 10M vehicles eachyear

    2. For global market T has global model - corolla sedan, rav4, landcruisers, lexus, even corolla cross is now being sold in US n the hilux has been the fave of militants n ISIS terrorist in africa n middle east.

  12. Ok din yung Suzuki xl7
