Is The Philippine Market Toyota Vios Receiving Another Facelift This Year? Seems So

Will the current Toyota Vios receive yet another update before bowing out? That seems to be the case if these spy shots are correct.

Although some parts of ASEAN such as Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia are enjoying the all-new DNGA-based Vios since last year, some markets (including the Philippines?) will probably have the current model receive a final facelift before ending production.

Its fourth facelift in about a decade, the 2023 Vios will gain a substantially changed front-end. The most obvious change is the grille which gains the hammerhead look pioneered by the newly-launched Prius. Moreover, because of the more expansive grille, the headlight clusters have been updated to match too. The front bumper has also been changed which now sports a high-gloss black finish (likely reserved for the higher-trim variants). The redesign also pushes the LED fog light housing towards the trailing edge. A silver trim at the bottom gives an interesting contrast.

The rest of the Vios’s exterior hasn’t dramatically changed. The 15-inch alloy wheels get a new design (still with a two-tone, machine-finished look), while at the back, the rear bumper has been tweaked with a new cut line to give it some added angularity.

The 2023 Vios is expected to solider on with the same mechanicals as before, but according to some sources, it may add even more safety equipment. Aside from its impressive standard set of 7 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and stability control, some variants will now have Toyota Safety Sense or TSS. TSS enables driver assist systems such as pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It will likely get other goodies such as blind spot indicators with rear cross traffic alert as well. In terms of features, a larger head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is reportedly in the mix.

Lending credence to this possibility is that Toyota Motor Philippines applied for an extension to its participation in the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy or CARS program. Last November, it was reported that they applied for a full model change Vios, but it could simply be pointing to this refreshed one.

  1. Must still have alot of stock for the vios. It's not very appealing anymore especially with the Raize out.

    1. Hindi kasi pwd i taxi si raize. Majority of that sales figure are from the taxi business. Raize sales figure is still very good since most buyers are using it privately.

  2. Please don't. It's basically the same as the current Vios but with a different face. Price increase is expected for this.

  3. The appearance update does not blend well with the rest of the car. It look Toyota simply lifted it from somewhere like the Prius and hastily tacked it on for this last year in service. Even the "new" design of the wheels are a downgrade from the current one now in the XLE, and E.

  4. Too much Toyota haters here espcially King "kuchi888" Vannette (especially that his profile pic has the unsafe Urvan) that mentioned "unsafe Veloz" on a article here without reading specs first before making a pointless comment and causing others to attack him as a consequence. On the related part, the Vios looks very aggressive though I still don't like how the rear as it is almost similar to the pre-update model, they could have done it better. I don't understand why Toyota Thailand went ahead of launching the next-gen Ativ/Vios instead of making the final facelift?

  5. While it's not as good looking as the latest 2023/2024 vios, this one's way better than the current model though..

  6. Robin, Batman, Superman and Joker. What superhero moniker will this Vios version adopt?

  7. At least better than nothing I guess. The current Vios design is absolutely horrendous, I'll take Raize or City over current Vios anyday, or better to wait the DNGA Vios.

  8. If this is the case, could the Innova in the Philippines follow suit with the recently revised Innova Crysta from India (practically a 2nd refresh of the 2nd generation Innova)?

New Innova Crysta (2nd generation Innova) from India for reference: https://img.indianautosblog.com/resize/750x-/2023/01/28/2023-toyota-innova-crysta-9392.jpg

Hopefully Toyota can just skip these facelifts and just finish the retooling of the Toyota PH plant for the next-generation models.

  10. CVT transmission not reliable on hilly ..4000rpm .ex mitsubishi g4
Thats why I bought new expander with 4speed auto transmission
My friend got one year old vios..with faulty cvt spend 65k to replace the whole unit..
CVT used by japanesr car because it is cheaper than the auto transmission.

    1. Agree that coventional AT is more reliable than CVT, but a 1-yr old Vios is still under warranty.
