When the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and Truck Manufacturers Association (CAMPI-TMA) released their January industry data, the big surprise was Honda. From a mainstay in the lower half of the country’s Top 10 best-selling car brands, the Japanese carmaker found itself back into the Top 5, overtaking Suzuki and Isuzu in the process.
Selling 1,639 units, 739 of these were Passenger Cars (PC), while 900 are classified as Commercial Vehicles (CV).
The best-selling nameplate last month? Surprise, it was no longer the City. It wasn’t the Brio either. The best-selling Honda was the BR-V which moved 805 examples—439 of them being the base CVT model, the 1.5 S. This is followed by the top-the-line 1.5 VX with 187 sold.
The BR-V was also the best-selling CV model for Honda, but when it came to PCs, the Brio was king. The sub-B segment hatchback sold 286 units—with most buyers opting for the top-of-the-line Brio RS (175 units) followed by the 1.2 V CVT (81 units). Just 30 opted for the 1.2 S manual.
Closely following the Brio was the City with 230 sold. 117 buyers went for the City 1.5 RS, 112 went for the City 1.5 S, and get this, only one person bought the mid-trim City 1.5 V.
Digging further through their sales data, it’s also clear that Honda hasn’t cleared their backlog of the HR-V just yet. With a waiting list stretching close to 1,000 customers (unofficially), they only managed to serve 30 last January with 28 of them being the base HR-V 1.5 S. Only two were the HR-V V Turbo, and none were the HR-V RS Turbo.
Can Honda continue the momentum for the rest of 2023? Let’s see. Aside from the Civic Type R (which was reported as part of their January sales), the carmaker did promise that more new models are on their way. For now, this is how Honda’s January sales stacked up:
- Honda City – 230 units
- Honda City Hatchback – 123 units
- Honda Brio – 286 units
- Honda Civic – 60 units
- Honda Civic Type R – 40 units
- Honda BR-V – 805 units
- Honda HR-V – 30 units
- Honda CR-V – 65 units

DeleteYeah bring here an hrv with no sensing and it will surely sell like hotcakes. Honda's prestige and reliability over those unreliable n jerky china cars, except maybe geely.
