Watch Out Mazda MX-5, The 536-Horsepower MG Cyberster Is Heading To Production

Remember the MG Cyberster Concept? The two-seater concept car which was revealed around the same time last year? Well, guess what: it’s heading to production and this is how it looks like.

After a successful crowd funded effort launched soon after the concept car’s debut, the high-performance EV sportscar will do battle with the likes of the Mazda MX-5 come 2024.

Of course, a lot has happened between the Cyberster’s transition from concept car to production vehicle, but at least it keeps to traditional roadster design cues such as the long hood, short tail, and two-seater cabin. Like the Japanese roadster it’ll go head-to-head with, it also has a fabric roof, albeit electrically folding.

Unlike other MG models, the Cyberster doesn’ take on cues like the Stardust Grille and such. Instead, the MG Design Studio in the UK celebrated the British brand’s former models. It also has a Kammback rear design in a contrasting black finish. Of course, they couldn’t help but add pizzazz in the form of an illuminated badge and, get this, scissor doors. Wheel sizes range from 19 to 20 inches.

The MG Cyberster will be made available in both single- and dual-motor variants. No official figures were revealed yet, but based on industry filings made in China, the entry-level variant will have 309 horsepower, while the top-range variant will have 536 horsepower. Dimensionally, it’s much bigger than the MX-5—4,535 mm long, 1,913 mm wide, and 1,329 mm high. This puts it around the same size as the BMW Z4. It’ll weigh between 1,850 to 1,985 kilograms.

Best news is that the MG Cyberster will be made available globally as part of MG’s 100th anniversary. It’ll go on sale in China first where it’ll be made available with a yoke style steering wheel and a touchscreen-laden interior. After that, it’ll be launched in Europe in mid-2024.
